View plane for all
Friday, October 19 at 12:01 AM

I am on the Ballpark Neighborhood Association Board of Directors as well as an employee of McClain Finlon Advertising at 2340 Blake Street (11/2 blocks away
from beautiful Coors Field).
With the amount of media and public interest that the debate over a potential
high-rise near the ballpark has struck ("Bullied by the majority," On Point,
Oct. 16), I am in awe that developers are leading the charge against the public
views and demanding that the gorgeous view of the Rocky Mountains from Coors
Field be destroyed for the profit of a few special interests.
The view plane from Coors Field is there for all of us to enjoy. It wasn't
created for these or any other developers to take away.

hey did you stand up and say that coors field took the view away from anyone when it was built? have to admit it was built for a special interest and I can not recall any public use of the field even thought we built it.

sorry but your self interests are showing and you could care squat about anyone elses lose of view as long as you still have yours.

Joleen - I agree with the comments of the Anon poster 06:22 AM. I attend several games a year and I do not go for the view. I per the view to be from my home, not the ball park. Also your statement on the view plane is odd to say the least. If it was an important part of the design of the staduim, why was the zoning changed at the time to protect it? I see this as a bully trying to get his way at the expense of others rights.

joleen why is the staduim built so that most of the seats face away from the mountain views you speak of? if it is so important to protect the view why doesnt home plate look to the west so the view would provide a backdrop of the mountains as a batter was up?

Very few seats face away from the mountains. Home plate doesn't face west due to the setting sun, which now only creates trouble for the first baseman generally. The view is an important part of the overall stadium experience to me, and I favor keeping it, at the cost of compensating affected landowners. Bring on the view plane!

Is the first poster serious? Perhaps he forgets what the Coors Field neighborhood was like before the ball park was built. What view was there to be ruined then? Rundown, falling down, boarded up buildings. Heck Lodo wasn't Lodo until the field came along. People avoided the place because it was unsafe. Building that field was the best thing the city could have done, for the city, for the surrounding neighborhood and for the Denver metro economy.

The City has the right to control building heights. Coors Field has the right to urge opposition to buildings that affect it's view plain.

If this developer wanted to build next to your property you'd all pitch a fit over it too.

This is nothing new, go to any major city in the country and these fights occur all the time. But to use the argument "hey did you stand up and say that coors field took the view away from anyone when it was built?" is ridiculous.

joleen:
the real "few special interests" in this story are the owners of the Rockies who profit enormously from the tickets they sell for entry to the stadium to see the view in the first place. . .and this is only for ticketholders on upper levels of 1st base side who have that southwesterly view.. .no game, no ticket, no entry, no view. . .the property owners are merely "in the way" but hey have rights too and should be compensated. if nobody wants to compensate them. . .well, then maybe that just shows that it is not really that important after all.
