Bottled-water woes
Thursday, November 1 at 1:07 PM

David Rhodes of Westminster writes:

Letter writer Judy Reeve has a problem with Garrison Keillor’s column for, among other things, his criticism of the use of bottled water (“Enough already with Garrison Keillor,” Talk Back to the Media, Oct. 13).
Reeve writes, “First, I buy bottled water for convenience not because I think it’s somehow more wonderful than tap water.” Keillor doesn’t mention this but there are other reasons not to buy bottled water. The bottled-water industry is helping drain our aquifers (a nonrenewable resource, at least in terms of human lifetimes) and creates enormous amounts of plastic waste.
We can have convenience without damaging the environment. Just fill bottles with tap water and take them with you. If you are concerned that tap water is not safe, buy a filter.

READER COMMENTS

According to an article in the RMN, one of the major distributors of bottled water recently admitted that their "bottled water" was common tap water.

There's a sucker born every minute. (By the way, P.T. Barnum didn't say that. It was said by a man whose name, I think, might have been Morse, about Barnum's philosophy)

and once again stan b shows he knows not what he speaks.
it was a banker named David Hannum who made the reference to all of the people who came to see the girant he owned part insterest, and paid 50 cent to see it. it had nothing to do with philosophy at all and was associated to barnum after the lawsuit hannum tried to get against barnum for making a copy of his fake giant and calling his own the real one and hannum's a fake now.

Next step, bottled air. Why do folks who support poor products like public education and public health care, drink bottled water? Especially when Denver Water is an excellent public product. Never mind, I am thinking that "Mountain Breeze" is a good name for my bottled air.

7: 55,

I said, "whose name, I think, might have been....". But now, I'm pretty sure you're right. Thanks for the correction. I didn't take the time to verify the source but it wasn't Barnum. The fake giant you referred to was the Cardiff Giant. Your post, however, has little to do with bottled water, which was the main topic of the letter.

And please let me know if you need a dictionary or a book on grammar.

EVIAN -- SPELLED BACKWARDS -- NAIVE

Evian was the first big bottled water and it was a gift from France. The should have named it ELOHSSA.

Breeze, you say that Denver water is an excellent product but it is full of fluoride, which is a waste product also used in rat poison. Go ahead Breeze dring up and poison yourself.... I will stick with Eldorado Artesian spring water with zero fluoride.
