Clean energy breakthrough
Saturday, November 3 at 2:00 PM

John E. Schleicher of Boulder writes:

Congress is on the verge of a breakthrough on clean energy. This summer both the House and Senate passed bills that, in combination, will make a down payment on the fight against global warming, reduce America’s dependence on oil, diversigy our energy supply, and creat thousands of new, good-paying jobs right here at home.
Local and state governments have already seen the light and have laws in place that will mean more wind power, more solar power, and more clean cars on America roads. Now Congress must follow.
Rep. Mark Udall already voted in favor of clean energy this summer, and now has chance to make sure Congress decides on a final energy bill that requires utilities to get at least 15 percent of their electricty from renewable source by 2020 and increase gas mileage standards for cars and light trucks to at least 35 miles per gallon by 2020.

Was that a campaign speech for Mark Udall?

the only thing coming out of congress these days is a whole lot of hot air...maybe that is why the hole in the ozone is over the US Capitol..

Congress has never produced anything

What? No more tax credits for my Hummer? Darn you, do-nothing-Congress!

...the only thing coming out of congress these days is a whole lot of hot air...

...unlike when the frisky GOP (Folely, Craig, Vitter, et al) had other things "coming" out of Congress...

Sounds good John, but knowing that wind and solar power has some issues, are you gonna support building more nuclear power plans too? That would be a lot more dependable and reliable that other power sources.
Agree on raising the gas mileage, long overdue. Also government should lax regulations on what people can drive on the roads, may be create a special class for experimental vehicles, also why do you need a full blown driver’s license for mopeds? Under 50cc could be a class on it’s own, with traffic laws testing (come to think of it, up the 50 to 150CC). There are many things the government could do (especially locally) to improve traffic flow, also change people’s attitude about bicycles, mopeds and scooters on the road.

"Now Congress must follow."

With 11% approval for the failed leadership of Reid and Pelosi, absolutely nothing is going to happen.

Windmills, solar, corn, geothermal, etc. are all intellectual sasquatch that panders to the gullible crowd that needs to "feel good" about something that isn't happening. You moonbats need to load-up with "carbon credits," crawl back into your spaceships, pack your religion with you and stop bothering the rest of America.

Hank,
Do us all a favor, jump in your Hummer and drive it off the nearest cliff .

Uno,
Ask the people of Chyrnoble how the noo-cu-lar thing worked out for them.
And their children.

DMZ,

I drive a Peterbilt...great for running local errands, taking kids to soccer, Costco shopping, airport pickups, etc. Not only is the cost of diesel less than bottled water these days, my new $600 Haloooga Horn drives those Prius drivers nuts when I sneak up on their rear pumpers, while seated 8-feet higher than they and outweighing them by 8,000 lbs, and give them a mighty, windshield cracking "haloooga, haloooga, haloooga" blast. It scares their asses! They are such sissies.

Dmz, I did….no answer, may be they all dead. Nuclear power plans are better alternatives than coal, wind or solar. May be you should read up on it. Are you afraid to fly too?, after all sometimes airplanes do drop to the ground.

Hank: Doing his part to preserve the planet for those kids he drives to soccer.

It must suck to be your kids Hank, what with your multiple complexes and insecurities. Little Man with Big Truck would be a good Native American name for you..

congress isn't going to do anything to help the citizens with this problem
