Educate yourself on this political issue

Stephen A. Justino of Centennial writes:

In an article titled “Bush senses echo of Lenin, Hitler” printed in the Rocky Mountain News on 11/2/07, the AP reports that, without a trace of irony, President Bush compared Democratic leaders in Congress to the people who ignored the rise of Lenin and Hitler.
Unfortunately, I, too am seeing a lot of frightening similarities between post-9/11 America and the rise of the fascist dictators in the middle of the 20th century. The “Reichstag fire” was Hitler’s “9/11;”
and the Nazi “Enabling Acts” our “USA Patriot Act.” The “Black Shirts”
in Mussolini’s Italy, and the “Brown Shirts” in Hilter’s Germany are today’s “Blackwater USA.” Is there anyone over the age of 45 who can hear about the NSA (and its widespread warrantless domestic spying programs) without thinking that those are the kinds of things the Soviet KGB and the East German Stasi used to do? And, don’t even get me started on the comparisons between our torture chambers at: GITMO; Abu Ghraib; and, other unknown “black site” prisons, and the torture chambers Stalin’s Gulag Archipelago.
So, yes, there are historical comparisons to be made. In fact, the only comparison left to be made is whether we Americans are going to be like “the Good Germans” of the 1920s and 1930s, who passively watched as Adolf Hitler, and the Nazis, closed down Germany’s open parliamentary democracy, or, whether we are going to stand up against the tyranny and reclaim the Constitutional democratic/republic that our founding fathers created for us.
This is NOT a partisan issue. True patriots on both the right (www.americanfreedomagenda.org ) and the left (www.americanfreedomcampaign.org ) are working together reverse President Bush’s abuses of executive power. I strongly encourage everyone, regardless of your political party, to contact one of those groups to educate yourself on this most important political issue.

READER COMMENTS

Yes, you are correct. Unfortunately, most people who read this are going to jump on the party-wagon. They will call you names, they will verbally assault you and your loved ones, they will say you are trying to help the terrorist and that you are unpatriotic. Sadly, these people are misinformed and/or severely uneducated.

But, wait, it gets better. The liberals, democrats and others who are left-leaning, will join in, attacking the right-wingers and your entire point will be lost on the mindless.

I for one, however, thank you and hope to god/goddess/allah/buddah/krisna that they ALL read, carefully, the words you have written.

KISSES!!! (oh,and I just know someone will pick on me for that, too!)

hey sheila dont you get tired of kissing ass every day? and you seem to forget that all of the liberal left progressives are against the word god so you need to stop it.
BTW is your blue dress stained also?

are you happy now as someone picked on you for being you?

3:15 -
Now, that was an enlightening comment, a right-winger saying that "half the liberal progressives are against the word god" ---so, God smiles on the repugs, and not the liberals? You must enjoy making a complete FOOL of yourself....

Watch out for those black helicopters Stevo. They are coming to get you.

Every time one of these wackjobs pops up in the paper I can't help but laugh. Apparently we live in such a dictatorship that we can openly publish lousy historical comparisons without fear of reprisal, other than being considered a nitwit. The one thing he's got right is that it's not a partisan issue: Morons of all stripe fall for this horse manure.

Sheila,
Don't let these fools get you down, honey, I like your optimism and positive outlook.
And Keith, well, you're gonna call everyone a dumb-ass no matter what. So you're becoming less and less relevant. ( You really should find another pejorative.)
And Steve DID his research, that's what's bugging you.
You just can't handle the truth.

"KISSES!!! (oh,and I just know someone will pick on me for that, too!)"

You're right...that "salutation of your is sickening in it's condescending connotations. You are obviously a very intelligent individual -- why cheapen your posts with valley girl type statement?

lIn that very dark part of my heart I sometimes wish that the claims made in this letter were true. I would sometimes like to see a team of Blackwater commandos haul the MoveOn crowd, the Air America crowd, Geo Soros, Code Pink, Cindy Sheehan, and the entire editorial staffs of the WashPost, NYTimes, LATimes, NBC, CNN, etc. off to a gulag for the rest of their lives. Occasionally Pelosi, Reid, Teddy, and the Dems are also hauled off too. But then I come back to reality and realize that we do NOT have that here for all the handwringing and whining from Stephen and his ilk.

Posted by Michael on November 9, 2007 07:33 AM

Michael:

You would like all those people hauled off because you have no counter to their arguments.

Having the opposition disposed of rather than having to debate them is a hallmark of tyranny.

At least we know where you stand...

Charles B:
I am debating you right now. I simply said that I SOMETIMES wish those things were true - BUT THEY ARE NOT, are they??? The claims and propaganda put forth by Stephen are nothing but BULLSHIT and LIES to the nth degree. You can spin it however you want if that makes you happy but this ain't Nazi Germany nor is the USSR.

Truth,

"You would like all those people hauled off because you have no counter to their arguments."

I choose not to attempt to counter the 16th street mall wino's comment that the world is coming to an end either, but that doesn't mean he isn't off his rocker and desperately needs help.

google fema prison camps or go to youtube and search fema prison camps
you might be a bit surprised at how much you find

Bean,

.

"The Rex 84 Program was established on the reasoning that if a mass exodus of illegal aliens crossed the Mexican/US border, they would be quickly rounded up and detained in detention centers by FEMA. Rex 84 allowed many military bases to be closed down and to be turned into prisons."

I did go to the website and glad to hear our government is prepared and has the facilities to accommodate the illegals

While I understand the need for historical context, and the similarities are curious, I have to take issue with anyone comparing G. W. Bush to Hitler. Hitler actually knew how to plan, execute, and succeed in an invasion, and until he made the mistake of engaging in three-fronted war, he was a competent comander in chief. Bush, um, not so much. Or at all.

And Keith, shut up.

Posted by not quite on November 9, 2007 12:21 PM

Yep, Bush isn't on the same level with Hitler. But if you do any research, we DO have parallels between some of what's occurring now and what occurred in Germany to form the basis for what Hitler did later on- Germans didn't all of a sudden wake up one day and decide that they were going to murder Jews.

I spent over 10 years in Germany, and we were required to study the history there in the Advanced German language classes; I was privileged enough to be selected to attend a symposium in Bonn (held in German) which looked at history and psychology of Hitler's rise to power. German national pride was low after winning the war, and the economy was terrible because of the huge cost being forced as part of the Reparations act. Then the Reichstag fire occurred, planned and used by Hitler to blame the Jews. He began to pass legislation, using the "terrorist" act as a basis, which passed more and more power to him, until he finally became a dictator with his own private army (SS).

Now, if you can't see the parallels here, then you are in denial. 9-11 was the foundation for the formation and expansion of the Dept of Homeland Security, and then the Patriot Act. All were done in the name of "national security". And now you have blatantly unconstitutional legislation being passed:

1. The John Warner Defense Authorization Act, which authorizes the President to mobilize and utilize military anywhere in the country, including non-federal property.

2. The Martial Law Presidential Decision Directive 51 being passed, which authorizes the President to take total country of the country and government under certain circumstances.

I know I'm going to have a whole bunch of folks jumping in my stuff claiming it's not true or paranoia. So I'm going to save some time now-

1. If all you have is some insults, keep it to yourself. It adds nothing to this discussion, and makes you look like an idiot.
2. Don't engage in transparent attempts to discredit me personally, address your issues to the arguments.
3. If you have a claim that contradicts the above, then PROVE IT and don't just spout off personal opinions.
4. If you think I'm wrong, show me where, and back it up.

someone, at 8:15 said that sheila is apparently an intelligent woman. this is more than likely true. I've read her posts and tend to agree. BUT, the same person said that she was 'cheapening' her posts by inserting 'valley girl type things.' I lived in the valley. We didn't and don't end all letters like that. and, even if we DID???? What is your problem? What is so wrong with someone wishing kisses for everyone? That is my take on it and I think you are all so full of sour grapes.

Posted by ONE HELL OF A WOMAN on November 9, 2007 02:12 PM

Charles- like I said in the other blog, sad you have to expect insults from folks who disagree rather than intelligent discourse.

Letter writer Democrat Stephen Justino said the statement"Bush compared Democrats to people who ignored the rise of Lenin and Hitler" should not have been published.I agree the media got it wrong. It should have been"Bush compared Democrats to Lenin and Hitler".The first thing these leaders did was take the guns away from the citizens so they would be good victims. This is what the Democrats leaders today support. They want good victims also.

Posted by An American on November 10, 2007 09:14 AM

Yes, the KGB, the Stasi and the Gulag again compared to the Bush administration by some one who apparently has no clue what those entities where.

I think this says it all “In fact, the only comparison left to be made is whether we Americans are going to be like “the Good Germans” of the 1920s and 1930s, who passively watched as Adolf Hitler, and the Nazis, closed down Germany’s open parliamentary democracy” – only comparison left? How so?

Can you guys, may be Stephen or Sheila or others who actually believe this BS provide some info to back up your claims? May be the location of the forced labor camps (and what they building, a dam? Where?) Bush created to eliminate his political enemies, at least some names, the names of Air America radio hosts who was arrested for speaking out against Bush, even threatening his life. It should be easy, Stalin had 20 million people exterminated, I’m sure the left can provide easily at least a few thousand names of Americans forced into Gulags by Bush. Should be even easier to provide the names of those who Bush had jailed for their political views, like the Stasi and KGB used to do.

You mention The John Warner Defense Authoriztion and Directive 51? When and where did this president use these two act? You don't say I'am just wondering. You talk about history what about WW2 after Pearl Harbor and what FDR did with Martial Law. What about all those Japaneses-Americans that lost everything when they were placed in camps. Troops where place on private land to protect us from invasion and no one said anything about it for our freedom from others that would take it.

By calling some one an Idiot you just broke onr of you own requests by insulting them. So if they disagree with you. You don't mind to insult them on what they may type you don't like.

Posted by brad on November 12, 2007 08:19 AM

Brad-

Never said the acts have been used yet. The point was that the legislation has been passed and is unconstitutional. As to the historical events you mentioned, the fact that people at the time hadn't "said anything" about it is irrelevant- unconstitutional and unjust laws/actions remain so whether or not people criticize it!

Also, if you had read my post carefully, I hadn't called anyone an idiot... yet. It stated a possible future action (NOT an opinion) and evaluated the action. Contrary to your comment, I don't insult people for disagreeing with me (as you try to claim). However, yes, I DO have a problem with people who spout un-deserved venom, hate, and personal attacks, and who can't discuss the subject at hand.

Talking about German national pride being low after winning a war what war? WW1 they lost that one. If Bush was more like Hitler he would be going after people he did not like. Family would be turning on family by turning them in, were has that happened and what rights have been taken. He has not placed blame on muslims he has placed blame on those that have taken credit for 9-11. Were are all those muslims that had there rights taken or being forced to wear a cresent, and put in to prison and killed by the orders of this president. That says alot about Bush that he has not done anything like Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, and Mussolini and Pol Pot.

Posted by brad on November 13, 2007 09:08 AM

good catch... meant national pride was low after losing the war, further compounded by the Treaty of Versailles which put a huge debt on Germany for reparations.

Further, I never compared Bush to Hitler, but compared the state of the US to that of Germany.
