Let the science decide warming strategy
The assertion that global warming has become an issue of convenience is as outdated as it smacks of conspiracy theory. Vincent Carroll claims that liberals are using global warming as moral justification for pushing a broad social agenda down the throats of an unsuspecting public (“Don’t have a cow, man,” On Point, Oct. 17). In the same manner, Carroll himself is using the rhetoric of “personal freedom” to justify the ongoing destruction of the environment and our future.
Government reports on the health of red meat aren’t forcing anyone to change their habits. But if the science demands that Americans reduce their hefty consumption of red meat a little, so be it. Tackling global crises requires some sacrifices from all of us. The Rocky and its editorial content risk becoming irrelevant in the public discourse about global warming as the American people demand real solutions.
Sam Holden, Denver
Sam, you risk becoming irrelevant by listening and reading one side only.
Open your mind as you like ot preach to others and read about those with whom you disagree - you might learn something.
sam,Another victim of liberal propanganda.

Smith's basic concept; imagine how your net worth would increase if you could buy our boy keith for what he's worth, and sell him for what he thinks he's worth. Unfortunately megalomania has no market value.
Posted by davis X. Machina on November 5, 2007 08:30 AMThe science of global warming, according to AlGore, is not in question. As the greatest of all atmospheric scientests AlGore must not be challenged.
Anyone disagreeing with Gore is on the payroll of big oil. That is the truth as stated in the New York Times and they only print the truth.
The folks on the far right need to remember...it is not Gore that is coming up with all the scientific data, conclusions and consensus on this issue...it is nearly every single, peer-reviewed, field-appropriate scientist on the planet.
The real question is why so many folks on the right fringe choose once again the side opposite science.
Posted by jay on November 5, 2007 09:11 AMSo-called "global warming" is just a secret ploy by wacko tree-huggers to make America energy independent, clean our air and water, improve the fuel efficiency of our vehicles, kick-start 21st century industries and make our cities safer and more liveable. Don't let them get away with it.

Posted by on November 5, 2007 12:45 PMSam, global warming is intellectual sasquatch. And we should do as much about global warming as we do about sasquatch.
Sam, if the government told said that you only get one square per wipe and that only with your left hand, would you ever cheat? Ever? Even when nobody's there looking?

"it is nearly every single, peer-reviewed, field-appropriate scientist on the planet"
No its not and if you didnt have a closed mind you wouldnt disregard and dismiss any contrary scientific views.
Now would you MR. SCIENCE?
.
REAL SCIENTISTS ARENT CLOSED MINDED
Posted by on November 5, 2007 08:13 PMDavis X. Machina,
That was hilarious.
Chip,
Agreed. It's much better to let OPEC tell us when to bend over. Being energy independent and in control of our own destiny strikes of remarkably un-American values. I personally enjoy "Jack My Price Up" at the gas station.
Hank,
Do you sit down when you pee?
Dan,
The phrase "energy independent" is such a fraud. Nobody can live independent of energy anymore than they can live independent of food.
However, if we were allowed to drill for oil and natural gas in places like ANWR and the continental shelf, build more nuclear, more solar panels, windmills, geothermal, ... we wouldn't have to depend on foreign energy sources.
Posted by Dave on November 6, 2007 08:47 AMDave the myth that if we drill in ANWR we'll throw the yoke of foreign oil dependence has been debunked more times than the given myths for going to war in Iraq.
Gee man...at least come up with some new myths that haven't been debunked yet.
This is too easy
Posted by jay on November 6, 2007 10:22 AMFunny when I was growing up we were told by all the great minds of the day in school every day that the earth was going into the next Ice age and we were all going to freeze to death if we did not stop using gas and use wind power and ride bikes, Now when my kids are in school the same great minds are telling them we are going to burn up or drown. I say they do not have a clue they just want more grant money.

Posted by on November 6, 2007 06:37 PMjay,
Your alleged "debunking of myths" have all the rebuttal value of insults and name calling with some hand waving mixed in.
Worthless.
Posted by Dave on November 6, 2007 10:42 PMSeriously people? Are you that misinformed that you believe that drilling in ANWR will allow us to end our addiction of foreign oil?
wow

Apparently you believed then...as now...that there is no difference between credible, peer-reviewed, field-appropriate, scientifically valid conclusions and crap thrown against the wall for the sake of politics.
