Liberals moaning about illegals
They must also realize that bank robbers, second-story men, con artists, and all of the other illegally oriented people are just trying to make their lives and those of their families better too.
This letter has not been edited.
Liberals are ruining every aspect of this country.

I have a great deal of sympathy for the vast majority of illegal immigrants because they come from extremely deprived circumstances into which they were put without any choice on their part. But I also feel sorry for people like Uno and Keith because they were also deprived of something without their choice, i.e., a working brain.
Posted by Truth on November 4, 2007 02:51 PMTruth, how old are you? Have you graduated from middle school? Editors, can't we do something about ad hominem attacks? This is ridiculous.
Posted by freethinker on November 4, 2007 03:04 PMTruth, what a comedian. So, according to you it’s OK to turn this country into another “extremely deprived circumstances” because you have a great deal of sympathy. May be you should move to Commerce City to get a taste of where it’s all headed, and don’t forget to learn Spanish on the way.

Posted by Uno on November 4, 2007 06:46 PMBack to the original letter. It's fine to feel sorry for people from the third world and the conditions in which they live. I've been to Bolivia, and believe me, most everyone would come running across the border if they could get here. That's one Latin American country - but there are all the Asian ones, African ones, eastern European ones - just think about all the folks who live in poverty and want to come here. Now think what our country would be like if they did.
Americans don't have to take in every poor person who wants to come, and we wouldn't have a country if we did. We'd have a lawless and dangerous mob of desperate people trying to wring whatever wealth they could out of this country. We'd impoverish our own people and despoil our children's inheritance.
Everyone in poor countries understands that you fence in what is yours, in order to keep it from aggressors who would steal it from you. Yet illegals expect we should just welcome them all with open arms and treat them like they have all the rights of Americans.
Posted by Denise on November 4, 2007 09:09 PMi just wished the news papers that suport these so called poor illegals would show up at the welfare offices and leap offices and look at what the poor illegals are driving they would be shocked at the escalades, mercades and denalis that american people cant even afford and you want us to feel sorry for them they should all be loaded in a van and take the ones who want them here with them back to mexico
Posted by jim on November 4, 2007 10:37 PMTruth, how many illegals are you supporting? Got some living in your garage? Do you throw extra money to their cause? If you can't step up to the plate, sit down a shut up.

My own experience observing deportation in action was a rig manager (illegal Mexican) on an oil rig deported in August while drilling a gas well on DIA property. Six weeks later he's back, working for a different drilling contractor on the Western Slope, but here none the less.
Border security is where it starts, anyone with some gumption and determination circumvents the deportation process and is back in short order. All the years we had a GOP Congress and nothing was done, but now it is all the Liberals and Democrats who are all at fault, right Mr. Taylor? Maybe AARP's Divided We Fail campaign can add this to their agenda and we can get solutions instead of more rhetoric and assigning of blame.
Posted by Ike on November 5, 2007 07:58 AMIllegal is illegal and legal is legal. If this is a r country rule by law, which it is, where then is the justification for argument to the contrary.
Emotion be damned! Zealots always appeal to emotions with no valid point of law or common sense to back it up. They make up their own facts to suit their purposes then propagandize that as, it's for the good of the public's wellfare, and most times it works. Editor's note: In 2004, Richard D. Lamm, former governor of Colorado, addressed a conference sponsored by the Federation for American Immigration Reform in Washington. The following remarks are reprinted with his permission.
Richard. D. Lamm
I have a secret plan to destroy America. If you believe, as many do, that America is too smug, too white bread, too self-satisfied, too rich, let's destroy America. It is not that hard to do. History shows that nations are more fragile than their citizens think. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and they all fall, and that "an autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide." Here is my plan:
We must first make America a bilingual-bicultural country. History shows, in my opinion, that no nation can survive the tension, conflict and antagonism of two competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. One scholar, Seymour Martin Lipset, put it this way: "The histories of bilingual and bicultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension and tragedy. Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, Lebanon – all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with its Basques, Bretons and Corsicans."
I would then invent "multiculturalism" and encourage immigrants to maintain their own culture. I would make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal: that there are no cultural differences that are important. I would declare it an article of faith that the black and Hispanic dropout rate is only due to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out-of-bounds.
We can make the United States a "Hispanic Quebec" without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently, "The apparent success of our own multiethnic and multicultural experiment might have been achieved, not by tolerance, but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentrically, and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together." I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with a salad bowl metaphor. It is important to insure that we have various cultural sub-groups living in America reinforcing their differences, rather than Americans emphasizing their similarities.
Having done all this, I would make our fastest-growing demographic group the least educated – I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50 percent dropout rate from school.
I would then get the big foundations and big business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of victimology. I would get all minorities to think their lack of success was all the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population.
I would establish dual citizenship and promote divided loyalties. I would "celebrate diversity." "Diversity" is a wonderfully seductive word. It stresses differences rather than commonalities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other – that is, when they are not killing each other. A "diverse," peaceful or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together, and we can take advantage of this myopia. Look at the ancient Greeks. Dorf's "World History" tells us: "The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common language and literature; and they worshiped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic Games in honor of Zeus, and all Greeks venerated the shrine of Apollo at Delphi. A common enemy, Persia, threatened their liberty. Yet, all of these bonds together were not strong enough to overcome two factors ... (local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions ...)" If we can put the emphasis on the "pluribus," instead of the "unum," we can balkanize America as surely as Kosovo.
Then I would place all these subjects off-limits – make it taboo to talk about. I would find a word similar to "heretic" in the 16th century – that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like "racist", "xenophobe" halt argument and conversation. Having made America a bilingual-bicultural country, having established multiculturalism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of "victimology," I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra – "because immigration has been good for America, it must always be good." I would make every individual immigrant sympatric and ignore the cumulative impact.
Lastly, I would censor Victor Davis Hanson's book "Mexifornia" – this book is dangerous; it exposes my plan to destroy America. So please, please – if you feel that America deserves to be destroyed – please, please – don't buy this book! This guy is on to my plan. "The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum." – Noam Chomsky, American linguist and U.S. media and foreign policy critic.

You're kinda outnumbered!!!!!!
Good thing you're still a bleeding-heart, "we can save the whole world" cry baby. Because
there's not too many of you left, thankfully.
The Democrats show us over and over again that they hate this country. They want the terrorists to win in Iraq and they want illegals to flood the US.Larry claims that Bush wanted amnesty for the illegals but he forgot to mention that the Republican congressmen were the ones that killed the bill.If Hillary becomes president and congress is held by the Democrats you will see a bill pass that will almost instantly make illeagals citizens. The reason is the Democrats want this voting block. This is why Bush was trying to get something through that would be less dangerous to us than what the Democrats will push. The Democrats are set on destroying the US.You will see I am right.
Posted by An American on November 5, 2007 10:40 AMHere's the deal.
Americans are sick and tired of being lied to by their government. That's why these amnesty-ridden bills are being killed; CITIZENS don't believe the gov. when they claim they'll take care of the flood of illegal immigrants. I believe MANY, MANY more citizens will be open to discussions of amnesty AFTER the gov. has really taken care of the open border issue. Not just talked about it, or made more empty promises toward it, but REALLY secure the borders and bring illegal immigration under control.
THEN WE'LL TALK, NOT BEFORE.
WE AMERICAN CITIZENS WON'T BE FOOLED AGAIN.

If you both did some homework you would probably find that some where in your family tree a ansestor of yours came here Illegally. Unless your full blooded Indian. Now I go to Mexico every year and what I would like to do is set up a trade program. We bring good working Mexicans that have open minds and are willing to give a little and we send stupid brain dead people like you and Keith down there.
Posted by larry on November 5, 2007 12:23 PMIf the feds pass an amnesty, everyone should change their tax withholding status to as many exemptions as they can (10-20), and then at the end of the year, just not file.

Recently Mexican President Calderon has been very outspoken, critical on U.S. Immigration law enforcement efforts and supports Amnesty for all illegal aliens from Mexico residing, working in this nation.
Contrary to popular belief, Mexico has very strict immigration laws which are enforced by every police agency in the country. The Bureau of Immigration can call upon any law enforcement officer to assist in their mission. Citizens from the United States traveling in Mexico without proper documents, work permits or non immigrant visas are subject to arrest as illegal aliens.
The laws regarding foreign national visitors, immigrants, non-citizens are as clear and concise in Mexico as are our own U.S. laws which are considered unenforceable by many politicians in Washington, D.C.
* Reglamento de la Ley General de Poblacion (General Law on Population) in Spanish dated Abril 14 de 2000 Capitulo Quinto --Migracion Seccion 1
Mexico welcomes only foreigners who will be useful to Mexican society:
Foreigners are admitted into Mexico "according to their possibilities of contributing to national progress."
Immigration officials must "ensure" that "immigrants will be useful elements for the country and that they have the necessary funds for their sustenance" and for their dependents.
Foreigners may be barred from the country if their presence upsets "the equilibrium of the national demographics," when foreigners are deemed detrimental to "economic or national interests," when they do not behave like good citizens in their own country, when they have broken Mexican laws, and when "they are not found to be physically or mentally healthy."
The Secretary of Governance may "suspend or prohibit the admission of foreigners when he determines it to be in the national interest."
Mexican authorities must keep track of every single person in the country:
Federal, local and municipal police must cooperate with federal immigration authorities upon request to assist in the arrests of illegal immigrants.
A National Population Registry keeps track of "every single individual who comprises the population of the country," and verifies each individual's identity.
A national Catalog of Foreigners tracks foreign tourists and immigrants and assigns each individual with a unique tracking number.
Foreigners with fake papers, or who enter the country under false pretenses, may be Imprisoned. Foreigners with fake immigration papers may be fined or imprisoned.
Foreigners who sign government documents "with a signature that is false or different is subject to fine and imprisonment.
Foreigners who fail to obey the rules will be fined, deported, and/or imprisoned as Felons. Foreigners who fail to obey a deportation order are to be punished.
Foreigners who are deported from Mexico and attempt to re-enter the country without authorization can be imprisoned for up to 10 years.
Foreigners who violate the terms of their visa may be sentenced to up to six years in prison . Foreigners who misrepresent the terms of their visa while in Mexico -- such as working with out a permit -- can also be imprisoned.
Under Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony. The General Law on Population States…
"A penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine of three hundred to five thousand pesos will be imposed on the foreigner who enters the country illegally."
Foreigners with legal immigration problems may be deported from Mexico instead of being imprisoned. Foreigners who have contempt against national sovereignty or security" will be deported.
Mexicans who help illegal aliens enter the country are themselves considered criminals .Under the law, A Mexican who marries a foreigner with the sole objective of helping the foreigner live in the country is subject to up to five years in prison.
Shipping and airline companies that bring undocumented foreigners into Mexico will be fined. The general immigration laws of Mexico are very similar to 8 U.S. Codes of the I&N Act. The review of basic Immigration laws of various nations including Mexico have been researched by various authors including Professor Michael Waller and Reports for U.S. Congress. Open border advocates, special interest groups in the United States do not appreciate this information made public although the facts have been readily available and widely distributed. Condemning U.S. Laws as cruel and inhumane lacks any measure of common sense when the majority of nations in the world including Mexico have very strict immigration policies.

Posted by An American on November 6, 2007 12:38 PMAs always An American proves himself an idiot and also his cowardness. He always dodges the questions of his military service ( again none) and why he will not enlist ( cowardness). From An Americans postings on this page and others we can clearly see what a total coward and chickenhawk he is. I would say he is a hateful man, except that to call him a 'man' is a slight to every man in the room. He has been asked repeatedlly to state his military experience (NONE) and to state why he hasnt enlisted. It should be apparent he is too much a coward to enlist, he 'pretends' to support the war but hides under his bed instead of joining our military.
His cowardness makes it obvious that he hates America and hates freedom. His lack of intelligence and his total cowardice shows in every post. If you cant tell us why you are too chicken to enlist can you tell us why you hate this country so much? I encourage every real American in this room to spit on this spineless excuse of a man.
