Oh the irony of the Rocky's Ritter angst
Friday, November 9 at 12:01 AM

There is something ironic now that the Rocky Mountain News is blasting Gov. Bill
Ritter for his recent "political moves" to push for unionization of state
workers and his "green moves" that will cost the state millions in plain costs
and in jobs.

Of course the business people don't like it. And who really cares about the poor
taxpayer on whose shoulders it will all fall? It seems Ritter just thinks that
is their role - to pay for his pipe dreams.

The irony is that the Rocky Mountain News actually endorsed Ritter in the first
place.

The title of Ann Coulter's latest book says it all: If Democrats Had Any Brains,
They'd Be Republicans. But she also gave a hopeful outlook. She knows that
everyone has memories and said that, down the road, people will remember why
they were once voted out. In this instance, we can't afford them and their pipe
dreams.

Spoken by someone who probably doesn't think twice about the cost of our occupation of Iraq. Talk about pouring money down a rat hole so that the Blackwaters of the world can skim money off the taxpayers without any accountability.

The people voted for Ritter because they hated Beauprez and the Republican agenda of caring only for the rich.

Ritter is doing a fantastic job moving the state forward and standing up for the working man. Go get em Guv.

All though I don't care much for the way unions operate today I must say when you look at the way the working man in this country keeps falling behind while costs and the rich salaries sore someone needs to stick up for the little guy. What I say to the unions is get your house in order and quit supporting the lazy and worthless. This is time to make a come back. The working class needs to make a stand to these big capitalist more then ever.

Wes spoken like someone that plea bargined his was to commonsense. Ritter has been the worst thing that could have happen to the Colorado working family except union gov't workers. More taxes higher prices and we get to share our job with illegals lowering our wages. Nothing Ritter or maryor H-loopy can't solve with a tax increase.

Posted by FW on November 9, 2007 06:00 AM

yep now all colorado government workers can wear the union label and be put in a one pot fits all. now to get those great benefits all government workers get you will have the privallage to pay union dues for them. now the union hasnt done anything for you except take your money. doesnt it feel wonderful to be a union worker?
oh and please know that the next gov can take back this back door plan that the chicken s*** ditter signed as an ex order. If he was so good why was this done on a friday afternoon with no fan fare?

Completely agree with letter-writer Mr. Galmish, and really like someone who is not afraid to quote Ann Coulter. That drives the yellow dog Dems as crazy as all their other bad guys, i. e. the Rich, the Republican and now, Blackwater. Have they temporarly forgotton Huliburton? Ritter is counting on working-guy-Wes to just keep with the old line of thought and not live in the 21st century.

RITTER TALKS PSYCHOBABBLE:

Ritter had a "religious experience" while helicoptering over the Vermillion. Ritter now refers to his budget as a "moral" budget and more recently plans to "partner" with unions. Today on page one of the RMN, story on page 5, we learn that Ritter needs a "tax hike" to float his religious, moral and partnership programs. I guess one of his many Blue Ribbon Commissions just delivered the bad news--he doesn't have the money and he has to hike our taxes.

Didn't we just get a tax hike via Ref C?

Ritter knows what's right, what's good for us--the taxpayers. We are simply too stupid and that is the reason why he talks psyschobabble to us children. Meanwhile, the energy-rich Vermillion which Ritter put out of bounds (projecting weakness to terrorism) after his religious experience won't be generating any much needed tax receipts for Colorado. And crude is kissing $100 p/b.

I'm very concerned about Ritter's mental health, he sounds and acts increasingly like an escapee from Nurse Ratchet's Cuchoo's Nest. Let's make sure we only get his dose of psychobable for only one term.

Anyone that quotes Ann Culter obviously can't think for themselves long enough to have a thought.

If you don't like paying a little for the ability to live in this fine state, move back to Texas.

Only a socialist would have you pay to live in a state which under our constitution you can live here free.

Posted by Joe on November 9, 2007 08:01 AM

Come on now.... The union thing was a sleight of hand and a huge power grab by the dems.

The Union won't be able to strike, says the gov.... not so, says lawyers....They will more than likely be able to strike.

But, what this is really about is a giant quid pro quo... The newly minted union workers pay dues to the unions, keeping them fat and happy.... Ritter gets a union feeding him money for his and other dems campaigns. Follow the money. The dems have created a tax on the state workers for the democrat welfare fund.

Bravo Ritter! It takes giant brass ones to come up with this new Dem funding scheme.

Hey Frank you do know the War in Iraq is costing a billion a week and will be at 2.6 Trillion soon? The GOP has done a great job unless you are oppossed to unnecessary wars without an end. and Ann Coulter she should go back to her Michigan Militia and hang with the leftovers from Timothy McVeigh. She should be charged with treason.

Joe, just a word of advice. Start paying your taxes. They'll catch up with you eventually.

We definitely need a constitutional amendment to stop this sort of thing. "The right to organize shall not be infringed, except in the case of teachers and government employees".

What do totalitarian government's first do? They ban organizing. Some extremist pseudo-conservatives not only want the government to do nothing, they also favor keeping the people from doing anything.

Galmish: "people will remember why they were once voted out"

Finish the sentence Frank: "people will remember why
they were once voted out, and regret it".

As to Ritter's climate plan, it is good to know that Colorado is joining the rest of the civilized world in trying to save the planet from people like Bush, Dravur, Joe and Hank, who seem to "think" that we can use all the energy sources we want because God will provide.

Must agree that anyone quoting mAnn Coulter is exhibiting questionable intellectual credentials. The only thing to wonder about any mAnn appearance is whether the crucifix she chooses to go with her little black cocktail dress that day will be large enough to cover her adam's apple. You'll note that the title quoted started as usual near the top of various best-sellers lists, usually due to mass purchases by conservative groups for use as premiums like toasters at a bank, and has dropped precipitously every day since on its way off the list in a matter of very few weeks.
I also wonder just what it is that the anti-environment conservatives wish to conserve, and just where it is that they think tailpipe and smokestack emissions go. I also frequently wonder how it is that all the capitalist wunderkind entrepreneurs cannot figure out a way to turn a profit off being conservative of the only planet we have to live on.

What can you expect from a Democratic govenor. Union money helped him get elected so it's time to pay back these socialist and corrupt organizations that are so close to his pinko heart. He also is in lock step with his comrade Al Gore in reducing new auto emisions and MPG's that will have us all buying cars we don't want or can fit our families in. Like Gore and all socialist elitists pushing this enviromental hoax he will not be subject to these rules and standards. They have Mansions, Limos and jets and are buying "carbon offsets. What a scam!
Now that Hickenlooper conned the stupid people in Denver to raise their taxes somemore(Just in time for the DNC) Ritter also want's another state tax increase. These two typical tax crazed liberals will turn Denver and Colorado into another expensive cesspool like California.

Unions! Bahhhhh... I'd like to go back to pre-union time when entire families could work together, side by side children with adults, everyone getting a solid 10 cents an hour. No stupid overtime rules ( no time and half and whats wrong with a 12 hour workday, it eliminates slothful habits) , no stupid child labor laws ( might as well start 'em working at 10 or 12 instead of teasing 'em with ideas on that damn college nonesense), no stupid safe working conditions laws ( hey if you are too chicken to work here go someplace else!), no vacations, no holidays off ( imagine Bob Cratchit wanting a half day off for Christmas, Bah humbug!). A simpler gentler time when management was the workers freind, like a kindly father you knew they would take care of you without nasty union negotiations.
Unions the ruin of American business and the elitest way of life

Jealousy will get you nowhere. I almost forgot. Denver is nowhere. It's filled with pereverts like you, moochers, gang bangers and every sort of liberal lowlifes imaginable. It's a crime and vice ridden city and the police are worthless. It's also a dirty filthy city. The streets are the worst in the state.

Anytime you have Democratic Mayors like Pena, Webb and this latest bozo the city never has enough money to fix the things the taxpayers already paid out for. All three of these loser mayors use that money to build overpriced airports and give freebies to United Airlines. build stadiums for millionaires, moved Elitch Gardens for free. Build hotels like the Hyatt Regency across from the convention center for free and also and have parking meters as far as the eye can see and you still have to pay to park long after city business hours.

They use your tax dollars for their own little private slush funds to dip into. If that's your idea of an oasis, you've been in the Democratic desert to long.

Posted by Not The Twisted Truth on November 9, 2007 12:09 PM

You voted Ritter in after all the reasonable sources told you he'd cozy up to the unions, raise taxes, increase entitlements, waste monies from ref C, which this same bunch tried to tell you would be a big bag of cash that would disappear before the bills got paid, and attack businesses and give the illegal workers anything they wanted, every chance he got. You got what you voted for. Next time pay attention to the facts instead of some slicky boy finger pointing at an ad that truthfully told you how a DA was plea-bargaining illegals and protecting them from deportation as well as any punishment for their crimes, and crying that it was unfair because nobody was supposed to tell.

Grow up. We will survive IF the people are smart enough to get rid of this fool. He's doing his best to make sure we will be unable to forget.

Just a warning, call it an advance notice, the next move will be to start crying about TABOR tying their hands and can't we please just get rid of that mean law that makes them have to get our permission to pick our pockets again? Suspected reason for whine? The...(wait for it).......CHILDREN... (add sniffle or sob here.)

Ritter stunk as a DA and really stinks as govenor. After this corrupt socialist is through Colorado will not only mean red, but will be in the red fiscally as well. I bet Bob Beuprez is starting to look pretty good to a lot of stupid people who voted for Ritter.

Posted by on November 9, 2007 01:27 PM

Both the R and D parties are working for themselves and illegal aliens and not for the citizens of the USA.

This isn't a pollitical party issue anymore people! Both parties are draining our wallets and padding their wallets!

Lets start by throwing them all out and putting new people in office that will work for the voters!

Posted by Feed-Up with Govt on November 9, 2007 01:59 PM

So the author is aghast at the notion that state workers could have some of the same rights millions of others do, and taken aback by the idea that we could work to limit his fondness for wasting all he can and defacating everywhere he walks. And then he supports his "argument" by citing a bit of mindless bombast from a publicity whore whose life has produced no meaningful accomplishments. Wow, quite the powerful statement.

Ritter is doing fine as far as I'm concerned. Know the quality of the man by the inferiority of his critics.

Posted by on November 9, 2007 03:05 PM

I love this country and this state. TABOR protects us from most of the greedy politicians and Ritter will protect us against the rest. Voters are allowed one major error. Perhaps YOU would prefer the cozy confines of Cuba or Venezuela.

Posted by momma y on November 9, 2007 08:33 PM

Duh!vur says "The dems have created a tax on the state workers for the democrat welfare fund."

That's funny, I'm sure not paying that tax. Nobody twisting my arm to join CAPE, no stampede of new union members.

Oh, there won't be any strikes either.

Perhaps you're just ignorant. Or uninformed. Or just plain stupid. I'm going to go with all of the above.

Posted by The Truth Is... on November 9, 2007 08:59 PM

Nope. He invited me to leave. I offered him the same choice. Ritter will do for conservatives in Colorado what Bush is doing for Democrats..remind them of why they don't want another one! I'm a conservative republican but any president who favors illegals over citizens deserves to be unemployed.

Governor Ritter wants to increase taxes? Never have I seen more of a fiscally irresponsibility action by a person, who is supposed to represent the publics best interests, in the light of decreasing taxes from bars and taverns due to the smoking ban the legislature enacted and he edorses, and in January adding even more tax losses from casinos under the same ban that he approves of. And did you know what's next if he doesn't get what he wants, why it's increasing the tax on casinos, possibly up to 40% as a result of the provisions in the law passed allowing gambling, which will no doubt cause some or most of the independent casinos to close their doors. Then, I guess, he'll justify that by saying it's for the wellbeing and protection of the public's health while at the same time trying to explain how he caused a further decrease in tax revenue, not to mention driving bars, taverns and casinos out of business and putting thousands of people out of work to the detriment of them and their families.

Let me try to explain this another way; You know you're going to need more tax revenue in future so you enact a law that will decrease tax revenue from bars and taverns through a ban on smoking and keep trying to add more businesses, casinos, cigar bars, DIA to that list and also raising their cost of operating through higher taxes on alcohol along with increased utility, insurance and other operating costs, so you have to ask the voters to approve a tax hike on every taxpayer to pay for what the majority of bluecollar workers can't afford for themselves or their families. And if the zealots get their way, fast food establishments are next along with smokers and obese people loosing their jobs if they don't slim down or quit smoking so that will add even more lost revenue, and the zealots list goes on and on ad nauseam. You can't get what you want if in the process of selling it to the public, the public sees you destroying the sources of the money needed to pay for it and making plans to dig deeper in your pockets to get it.

But politicians, by their own admissions, are incapable of considering the facts in the process of enacting laws or looking down the road to the consequences of their actions, just like like zealots are incapable of, so we must not treat them wrong. No, not wrong, we should throw the whole lying lot of them out of Our Government's public offices and ban them from ever running for public offices of any kind forever. Incompetence is expected from young children who have not learned, but incompetence from, so called, adult legislators and public officials who claim to know better than We The People how we should live our lives is completely unacceptable and cannot be forgiven
