Taxes and health care
Saturday, November 17 at 2:00 PM

Leroy M Martinez of Denver writes:

Gov. Ritter want to raise taxes in 2008 for Health Care, Education and Transportation. Anyone want to tell me where did the monies for Referendum C go to. This is for all the suckers that voted all the recent tax increases. If you have a choice, keep your own money.

Leroy, I don't know where the money went, whether it has gone into school, or roads or bridges or health care of other necessities, or into some politicians pocket. Neither do you. But asking a question does not answer it. If you think the money has been wasted, tell us how specifically.

I recently thought I might be having another heart attack. I wasn't sure so instead of calling 911 I drove to a nearby Kaiser clinic, thinking that they could determine there whether my condition was serious. But it turned out that the clinic couldn't do that and so it sent me to the hospital in an ambulance. I was given a few tests at the hospital, including what they referred to as a chemical stress test. The tests did not indicate a problem so I was released the next morning.

I have just received a notice that Kaiser paid the hospital over four thousand dollars for my stay there. I expect that I will have to pay a few hundred dollars for my experience.

Draw your own conclusions as to how poor people can be expected to deal with health care costs who don't have the advantage of Medicare as I do. Draw your own conclusions as to whether there is a health care cost crisis in the United States, and as to whether we want a government which considers health care as a part of the public good.
