The Iceman Pedal-eth

By Alan Gathright

Rep. Andy Kerr, D-Lakewood, earns the Nanook of the North Award for biking 10.4 miles in teeth-chattering, sub-freezing weather this morning to the Capitol.

“I wondered when I got off my bike this morning if I’d be able to walk because my toes were frozen,” he said on the House floor after thawing out with a hot shower.

The intrepid teacher/lawmaker admitted briefly pondering turning back after zooming down the first hill near home into the Arctic wind blast.

“When I was almost frozen at the bottom of that hill, I thought about it,” he said.

“My mom has lectured me on wearing warms socks, and I didn’t wear warm sock this morning. She’ll be very disappointed in me,” he joked.

But, true to the Dems' eco-friendly, pro-health platform, he added: “I didn’t use a gallon of gas today to get to work. So that’s healthy for me and healthy for the environment.”

Of course, he could have lit a few drops of that saved gas for a bonfire to warm his toes.
