Mrs. Scanlan goes to Washington
Congratulations, Rep. Christine Scanlan, you've just guided two forest-health bills through a House committee. What are you going to do next?
She's going to Washington D.C. - which is kind of like Disneyland for a legislator.
Scanlan, D-Dillion, and Sen. Dan Gibbs, D-Silverthorne, will lead a delegation of local officials to the nation's capital Wednesday to discuss the bark-beetle epidemic and forest fire concerns. The group will speak to Colorado's congressional delegation, the U.S. Forest Service and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.
On Wednesday, Scanlan had two of her bills approved by the House Agriculture, Livestock and Natural Resources Committee. House Bill 1199 would make changes regarding the management and use of Colorado's forests, while Senate Bill 1 would help local governments put together wildfire protection plans.
