Najera will be missed in Denver

As both a Mexican-American and an NBA beat writer, I'm disappointed to see Eduardo Najera fly east to New Jersey as a free agent.

Not only was he was one of the most accomodating players in the Nuggets locker room, but he embraced his status as the only Mexican-born player currently in the NBA. I know the Nuggets are over the luxury tax, but they could have justified retaining Najera by considering it a continued investment in public relations with the Hispanic community. Ever since former coach Dan Issel lashed out at a Hispanic fan back in 2001, the Nuggets have done a good job making amends. Acquiring Najera in 2005 was the ultimate apology.

Not only was Najera an ambassador in the community, but he was the true definition of a team player, something the Nuggets lack far too often. He was one of the team's best pick-and-roll defenders and never worried about how many points he scored. Not that Najera was invisible on offense. He ran the court as well as any big man on the roster and became a dangerous three-point shooter -- much to the delight of coach George Karl, who would love to have three Najeras on his bench every season.

Adios, Eddie. You will be missed in more ways than one.

First of all I am from Mexico and a fan of basketball and the NBA. Having said that, I have followed Eduardo since his first year in Oklahoma, his time with the Mavs, the sad mid season in Golden State and his time with the Nuggets, the first year was great, the last three years pretty good also but no playoff wins. What people might not understand is that like most sports basketball is an international game, and Mexico is not the exception, we play the game and follow the best leagues in the world and the NBA, Najera is the only player from Mexico that has made it to the NBA, he carries a lot in his shoulders and does it with alot of humility and with pride much like Lorena Ochoa the great mexican golfer. Eduardo is not a super gifted athlete or a flashy player, he is like 99% of the population that does well in their job a hardworker and a persons who gives his best every day. The Nuggets could not offer what Lalo needed obviously... but to Mexican fans everywhere and to alot of NBA fans in the US he is a player you enjoy to watch play and a player you can relate to, no interesting stats or fancy plays but somehow most nights he does alot to help his team win. Sorry but I will never relate to any other Nugget especially the more talented players so from now on go NETS!

Wow, a nice story about someone from Mexico brought out a racist. Who could have seen that coming?

Hey anonymous, be a man and put your name next to your post. Take ownership of your ignorance.

And by the way, Mexicans were here long before Columbus ever reached 'India'.

Sorry guys, I just get sick of reading what ignornamuses have to say anytime anybody says anything about Mexicans.

Open up the Forbes list of the 100 richest people in America. They are all male and they are all white. Why can't you just be happy with that instead of always trying to tear everybody else down?

God forbid a brown person should make it in life.

Go Najera, keep tearing these racists down by being the CLASSY individual you are. Unlike some.
