LeBron takes over career active average lead from Iverson

After more than four years, Allen Iverson finally has been toppled from his throne.
With the Detroit guard scoring just 11 points Saturday night at Utah, he relinquished the career active scoring average lead he had held since early in the 2004-05 season.
The NBA's active career scoring average is now Cleveland forward LeBron James, averaging 27.36 points per game. Iverson's average dropped Saturday to 27.35.
Early in the 2004-05 season, Iverson, then with Philadelphia, seized the active scoring average lead from Shaquille O'Neal, then with Miami. O'Neal had taken it over after Michael Jordan, the all-time leader, retired following the 2002-03 season.
With Iverson having entered the season averaging 27.7 points to James' 27.3, it appeared inevitable Iverson eventually would relinquish the active scoring average since he is 33 and James 24. Yet few thought it would happen this quickly.
While James is averaging 27.7 points this season, nearly identical to his career average, Iverson is averaging just 18.1. After being traded from Denver on Nov. 3, Iverson has scored far less with the team-oriented Pistons.
James also moved into third place on the NBA's all-time overall scoring average list. Jordan is on top at 30.12 followed by Wilt Chamberlain at 30.07.
James could end up holding the active scoring average lead for a very long time. Lakers guard Kobe Bryant is third at 25.1, but, at 30, has very little chance of catching James.
Perhaps the only active player with any chance of overtaking James is Miami guard Dwyane Wade, whose career average is 24.4, but isn't yet an NBA statistical qualifier since he has not yet played in 400 games (he's at 350) or scored 10,000 career points (he's at 8,554).
Wade leads the NBA in scoring this season with a 29.1 average. But it would seemingly take Wade more than a half decade of outscoring James by several points a game per season for Wade to claim the active scoring lead.
