Midwinter fly fishing escapism
I just can't take my eyes off a good porn flick. Wander into a ski shop or bar and there it is on the screen: skiers flying down impossibly steep slopes and hucking huge air. Or in the kayak shop: paddlers dancing through one big gnarly drop after another or screaming down a waterfall.
I'm talking ski porn and paddling porn, of course; what did you think I meant?
Now comes the same type of film featuring another of my passions: fly fishing. Better still, the films will be shown on a big screen in real theaters.
The 2009 Fly Fishing Film Tour, presented by The Drake magazine, was in Colorado Springs last week and is working its way north next week. The tour, which promises both freshwater and saltwater film shorts "made by the fest filmmakers in the business," will be at the Oriental Theater in Denver on Feb. 24 and the Boulder Theater on Feb. 26. Show time is 7 p.m. for both.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for kids and are available at: flyfishingfilmtour.com. Much of the money raised will go to various local and national conservation groups, according to Thad Robison of Mayfly Media.
Just watching trailers of the films on the Web site of beautiful casts and hookups with huge fish got me aching to dig the fly rod out of the closet and head for the nearest river.
The seven films on the program are compiled into a 90-minute presentation, Robison said, with a 30-minute intermission during which fly fishing gear from sponsors will be given away. The lineup showcases footage shot in Papua New Guinea, Russia, New Zealand, Belize, as well as domestic waters from California and Colorado to southern Louisiana and the Florida Keys.
Three of the films were shot and produced by Coloradans, Robison said: Drift - Confluence Films (Tom Bie, Chris Patterson), Eastern Rises - Felt Soul Media (Travis Rummel, Ben Knight) and Nervous Water - Beattie Outdoor Productions ( RA Beattie)
"Each film has a unique flavor and message and blend of hilarious commentary, awe-inspiring cinematography, mesmerizing storytelling, and, of course, tons of incredible fish. But the common thread that permeates all of these films is the desire to showcase, support and spread the sport we love," according to Mayfly Media.
"The thing I like to tell people about the tour is that these are not 'instructional' 'how to' or 'lodge promotion' films," Robison said. "The film tour is about lifestyle, adventure and entertainment."
Wish I could go, but then again I'm grateful to still be holding down my night job at the Rocky.
On a different note, Castlewood Canyon State Park is inviting anyone interested in becoming a volunteer naturalist at the park near Franktown to attend a meeting for prospective volunteers at the park on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
For more information and to register, call the park at 303-688-5242. An eight-week training course will begin Feb. 28. Prospective volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Lindsay is really a spoiled little bitch not having any skill. Why do you make a really fuss about this kind of loser? I can see not just far more, everything you understand from the last few years on she was drunk, parties, drunk driving, medicines, etc. Next to nothing about a brand new film or any project. Thanks, no one requires this.

I realize. It is always pretty difficult to differentiate between the pair of these. Both are Usa haters, hell bent on it’s break down. Mutually criticize Usa and Us citizens continuously. This is a hint, The president may possibly be the one presently succeeding in eradicating The country.

It is my opinion Barak likely will be wasting his time refuting Ahmadinejad merely because a good deal of American’s were lumping Ahmadinejad as a group in the same niche with President obama—however , if President obama must be believed, and who knows in such cases, Just maybe this is actually one instance when The president won't fault Bush.

Lohan Moves to Treatment Today. If this is absolutely not just her trying to stop jail then it's really not smart! She is about to stop by prison not less than thirty days irrelevant of who the judge is. Naturally in Los angeles that means 6-8 days!

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod's. It works well, but isn't as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that's not an issue, but if you're planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod's larger screen and better browser may be important.
