Lynn leaving Denver's 7?
Bertha Lynn, the venerable anchor on Denver's 7, could be signing off the air, if the allegations written in a letter from the Colorado Association of Black Journalists are true.According to Colorado Association of Black Journalists honcho Amani Ali, Lynn is being pushed out of Denver's ABC affiliate after 25 years on the job.
"I got a call last week as president (of the CBJA) to say there was a concerted effort to get rid of Bertha," Ali said Wednesday. "The situation was...they didn't use the word termination, they used buy out, resignation or tell us what to do. I sent the letter to Channel 7, they have not responded to the letter. If it is the truth, we want (them) to reconsider it. I have not heard back from Byron, have not spent a lot of time talking to Bertha. We hope they will respond to the letter.
"I certainly understand with the current economic conditions business is business. It seems to me that with the most visible talent you have on that station, well known in the community and leading her timeslot if that's true, that's insane.
She's in an awkward position and certainly I'm mindful of that. I just find it troubling."
Calls to Channel 7 management and to Lynn were not immediately returned Wednesday afternoon. Here's a copy of the letter Ali sent out last week:

To All Members:
Last night I received word KMGH-TV Channel 7 is making a concerted effort to terminate the employment of Bertha Lynn. After more than 30 years of providing our community with broadcast excellence, management is now questioning her performance. Just like many of you, I have watched over the years as Channel 7 has ignored the African American community.
Bertha has excelled in spite of being taken off of the prime time anchor desk, moved around, and disrespected while being subjected to intolerable working conditions. This not the first time we have heard about the antics at 7 News.
Bertha has been a pillar in our community and doesn't deserve the treatment she is receiving.
She has kept her silence and maintained her professionalism for many years despite the fact that she has had her pay cut numerous times. If a woman of her stature can be subjected to this type of treatment, then you know it can happen to any of us.
Although the recent hires of two African Americans at 7 News is a positive step on the surface, it is the first in almost nine years. I sincerely hope these two new hires are not pawns in a highly orchestrated maneuver to placate the African American community while unceremoniously pushing an institution out the door. Bertha's 11:00am newscast continues to win the ratings battle in her time slot, and she has even beaten the highly publicized 10pm newscast on occasions. Today, I will send a letter voicing my displeasure with the steps 7 News is taking. I am asking you to send an email of support to general manager Byron Grandy, by going to their website (www.thedenverchannel.com) click on "contact us," select "general manager" and type in your support of Bertha. Later I will provide you with the names of corporate officials you can send a letter to as well. We need to support Bertha now!
