b-man Well I'll start with what I think will be the best matchup in 4A football this week...Greeley West at Montrose

b-man I think GW has a tough task going to Montrose, that's a very tough place to play
sm32989 West is a pretty good team this year though
b-man West could have easily been the No. 1 seed
b-man But Montrose may have the best home advantage in 4A...maybe
sm32989 I still like wheat ridge in 4A
sm32989 Orms is a stud
b-man Wheat Ridge is hard not to like. Orms is awesome. But Fountain Fort Carson is a good team. Devyn Harris is a stud
b-man I think FFC's win over Ralston was one of the most impressive of the first round
sm32989 so is there other back, he is pretty quick in the open field
b-man Def, Quinton Lawson is very good, this will be a huge test for the Farmers
sm32989 Should be a good match up, two good defenses and offenses that can put up some points
sm32989 Who do you like in 3A
b-man WR may have to throw it to loosen up FFC's defense
b-man 3A has gotta be Glenwood Springs, right?
sm32989 The tri valley has some good teams still alive too
b-man I like D'Evelyn in 3A too
sm32989 Glenwood will probably have to go through the tri valley to get the crown
b-man Well Glenwood's victory over 4A Montrose still sticks in my mind, best 3A victory of this season, even if it was Week 1
b-man Still not sure how they did that
sm32989 Did montrose's starting QB play in that game? I heard he did not
b-man he broke his hand in that game, that's when the soph Nathan Robertson took over, and he has proved to be very good

sm32989 D'Evelyns QB is a stud too
sm32989 It is hard to argue with Grandview, they have shown success last year and throughout this year
b-man Yep, Griffeth is very good. Someone asked me if he'll play in college and I think he can at a lower level.
b-man Grandview has gotta be a heavy favorite, but Mullen is going to be a tough, tough out
sm32989 They always are, but the University of Mullen should be every year
b-man It will be interesting to see if they can slow down that Rocky Mountain passing game
b-man And Grandview has a strong opponent this week, like they say, it is tough to beat a good team twice in one season
b-man There are a couple rematches this week, and I wonder if coaches have installed some different packages to surprise teams

b-man But a team like rocky mountain, who everyone knows wants to throw it, maybe trying to run...who knows, but it will be fun to follow
b-man That's where teams that have balanced offenses, like GW in 4A and Mullen in 5A, can be really dangerous, they have the capability to run or pass

birddawg seems as though the rub is that they are a county team, rather getting to pick from the entire metro area
birddawg Have seen them all this year, but would have to with Akron. Too big, strong and fast. You

birddawg Yuma will be scary, but I don't think they have the horses. 2A is wide open in my opinion and Glenwood has D1 potential

b-man I'd go with D'Evelyn again, because of the schedule they've played
birddawg Rye is tallented and fast. Not nearly the sprrd of Hotchkiss or the power of the others but capable of the win
b-man Do you like the 5A playoff format, or the format of the other classes?
b-man I think 32 teams is way too many

birddawg I believe the state has to look at travel and rewarding league champions with seeding to start and going from there. Outside the metro area travel is going to kill the way we operate if not addressed
b-man i saw Douglas County blow out Montbello in Round 1, and I just wonder if the Montbello kids would have been better off not playing in a playoff game, kind of a downer to a pretty good season
birddawg As mentioned earlier, it is all about the $$$ to CHSAA not the kids
b-man well, then a team might play all its playoff games at home, not sure if I want that

b-man I don't think faith recruits, but when you have a great program, it is easy to draw kids to it
birddawg There is not a private school in the metro area that doesn't work the kids and anybody that thinks different is fooling themselves

RussMason I agree with b-man. I think sometimes people view a program that is good every single year and they assume there is recruiting going on. But, I think often it's simply kids want to go play at School A because they know they have a chance to win. Or, their friends are at School A and they want to pla

b-man with the transfer rules in colorado it is easy to perceive a kid getting recruited, but kids have choices, and friends influence them
denverfb birddawg have you ever thought that these kids choose these schools because they are actually good academically and they see the athletics as a chance to win?
RussMason That said, I think kids might choose Mullen (or Chatfield back then) because Dave Logan is the coach, and Dave Logan may have nothing to do with him going there
birddawg Sure, that is why Greer couldn't ACT qualify at CU after going through Mullen

rodh As long as there are private and puplic schools playing together it will be a subject of controversy
birddawg Logan is great coach and a tallented kid would want to play there but don't kid yourself it goes on with clubs, assistants , parents etc.. getting others to join

RussMason Of course it happens with clubs, parents, etc. It happens because kids play together on club teams and so they want to play together on the high school teams.

wing-t The downside of coaching at Regis and Mullen is that you get good kids but most of their parents think they're all-stars right off the bat.

wing-t To be very honest, I think most kids self-recruit to Mullen and Regis. Wanting to play for Dave Logan has a lot to do with it.

b-man they pay attention to the all conference teams, but place more emphasis on coaches input, sometimes all conference teams place limits on number of players by school and politics
groovyblue Self-recruit or parent-recruit. Sometimes parents have the bigger dreams for their kdis
birddawg Not all private schools, but you got believe there is a lot that goes on. Especially in the 3A area. Double there enrollment , move them up see how they respond.
rodh Yes, they play tough hard nosed football. They are very well coached as well. They also don't make mistakes.
amy My neice who started freshman varsity won state and was also picked for all colorado and all state. A few parents from 3A SAY THAT A 14 YR OLD IS NOT ALLOWED TO WIN. This award is not only for 17 and 18 year old is it?
wing-t And I think the majority of kids go to Faith, Lutheran, Christian and Valor because their parents want them to have religious training. The occasional high-profile kid who winds up going cross-town to play at a private school drives all the rumors.

denverfb i don't have to believe anything birddawg. i believe that these schools have great coaches and players that want to win. thats what i believe

b-man the News all state teams do not restrict by age or year in school, but again, we really on coaches input, and often coaches like the older players
wing-t I've always thought that if you have two equal kids for an all-state team, let the tie breaker go to the older kid.
birddawg To a point the religious schools have many in thier ranks for the right reasons. Only takes a few at that level to change the tide.
