Legacy's Jade Roberts had the hot hand for the Lightning in a 71-49 victory against Wheat Ridge in the Ralston Valley tournament. He scored 31 points, which included nine three-pointers.
The Frederick girls basketball team snapped a 13-game losing streak, which dated to Jan. 25, 2008, with a 73-26 victory against Fort Morgan last Friday. The Warriors were led by Chelsea Seele and Taryn Bessler, who both totaled career highs of 15 and 13 points, respectively.
Yes, those numbers for Machebeuf senior Zack Lass are correct. The Buffaloes forward has totaled a season's worth of goals and assists in the first two-plus weeks of ice hockey play. Other events, big and small, are dotting the state while some schools head to Las Vegas and Reno for other basketball orgies.
But in Colorado? Kids are playing one-on-one in the driveway, doing pushups in the basement and searching for an open gym. Wouldn't be a surprise if some coaches are (wink, wink) opening the doors, just in case their players want to drop by and shoot a few.
None of that is bad. But actual games? Nah. No wonder Colorado basketball teams never manage to play a full season of 30 or 35 games. A required break for ... uh, what is it again that kids get out of not playing for two weeks?
