Former top official with Gov. Bill Richardson heading Brighton's ecoomic development

Raymond Gonzales, a top cabinet official for New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, has been appointed the new president and CEO of Brighton Economic Development Corp., officials said today.
Gonzales, a native of Brighton, is replacing Susan Stanton to head the public-private partnership that works to attract and retain primary employers in the fast-growing area northwest of Denver International Airport. Vestas, the world's leading manufacturer of wind turbines, recently plans to create 1,350 new jobs in the city by 2010
Brighton will also serve as director of economic development for Brighton.
Before returning to Brighton, the Regis University graduate was the deputy cabinet secretary/chief operating office of the 600-person executive department for Richardson. He had a $53 million annual budget.
Prior to that, he was a U.S. Dept. of Labor regional representative for Colorado and New Mexico. He also served as a regional administrative officer with the U.S. Peace Corp.
"Brighton Economic Development Corporation will benefit from
Gonzales' ability to reach out to diverse interests and form public-private
partnerships," Brighton City Manager John Bramble, said in a statement.
Bramble made the appointment and serves on the Brighton EDC board.
