De La Rosa to the bullpen
The Lineups
Left-hander Jorge De La Rosa officially lost his spot in the Rockies rotation when manager Clint Hurdle announced he would move to the bullpen.
The move is effective Thursday, when De La Rosa will be rested after throwing 77 pitches in 3 1/3 innings Monday and giving up seven runs, six earned, in a 20-5 loss to the Phillies.
De La Rosa took the move in stride, saying he has relieved in the past and will gladly pitch anywhere. De La Rosa made his debut with the Rockies on May 3 and in five starts is 1-3 with a 9.00 ERA and in 23 innings has allowed 41 baserunners.
He was scheduled to start Saturday at Chicago. Left-hander Glendon Rusch, who last pitched Sunday, is a candidate to make that start. After being released by San Diego, Rusch signed a minor league contract with the Rockies and in two starts at Triple-A Colorado Springs is 0-0 with a 0.82 ERA.
