Vizcaino in; Rusch out; Next?
RHP Luis Vizcaino returned to the Rockies active roster Saturday. The Rockies sent LHP Glendon Rusch to Triple-A Colorado Springs to create a roster spot.
The question now is what the Rockies are going to do for a starter next Sunday against the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. Manager Clint Hurdle said Rusch is being sent out so he can get regular work with the idea he could rejoin the rotation. The catch is that barring an injury, Rusch cannot be recalled until he has been send downf or 10 days. That means he can't come back until June 17.
Rockies don't need a fifth starter until June 15, in thier series finale against the White Sox at US Cellular Park.
The options:
1. Rockies could bring each Jeff Francis, Aaron Cook and Ubaldo Jimenez back on three days of rest instead of four days for the games at Chciago June 14-15, and then agaisnt Atlanta at Coors Field on June 16.
2. Rockies could bring back LHP Franklin Morales, who went into Saturday night's start for the SkySox coming off solid starts, and would be rested to step into rotation on June 12 against the Giants, which was the date that Hurdle originally set for Rusch to rejoin the rotation when the decision was made to skip him a start because of off days last Thursday and Monday.
3. Rockies could bring back LHP Mark Redman, who has had back-to-back solid starts for the SkySox and is scheduled to start Sunday. He would be rested to step into rotation on june 13 or thereafter.
4. Move Jorge De La Rosa back into the rotation. De La Rosa struggled as a starter, and was put into the bullpen when the Rockies decided to bring up Rusch, who started last Saturday against the Cubs at Wrigley Field in his Rockies debut.
