No Fogg; July 23
The Rockies were scheduled to face former teammate Josh Fogg. But he won't start Friday as previously scheduled.
During batting practice Tuesday, Cincinnati pitcher Fogg was hit in the mouth by a line drive off the bat of Joey Votto and required 30 stitches to close a cut on his upper lip. With a day off Thursday, the Reds will simply move Edinson Volquez and Homer Bailey back a day. They'll start the first two games of the Rockies seres and work on normal rest.
The Rockies players were looking forward to seeing and competing against Fogg, a popular teammate when he was here. In the playoffs last year, when Fogg had earned the reputation of being a dragon slayer for beating numerous top-flight pitchers, Fogg was given a large painting showing him and, yes, a dragon.
Clubhouse manager Keith Schulz has the painting and will take it to Cincinnati to give to Fogg. Indications are Fogg will send the painting to his father in Florida.
Scott Podsednik and Yorvit Torrealba are in the lineup for this day game after a night game. And Brad Hawpe is batting cleanup for the first time since July 13 and fourth time this month.
Ian Stewart, who has hit seventh or eighth in the four games he has played since rejoining the Rockies on Saturday, will bat sixth. That's not a new spot in the lineup. Stewart batted sixth seven times during his first tour with the Rockies from May 24-June 22.
