Hawpe out; Smith in right
RF Brad Hawpe is not in the lineup on Monday against the Giants. Seth Smith will start in right field and he will hit leadoff.
Hawpe is healthy. He played all of Sunday's 4-3, 12-inning game. Hawpe is struggling -- he is 1-for-17 with six strikeouts in his last four games -- and has had problems throughout his career against RHP Matt Cain, the Monday starter for the Giants. Hawpe is 1-for-5 with six strikeouts against Cain, although he does have 11 walks. That's the lowest average for any Rockies position player with more than one at-bat against Cain except for Clint Barmes, who is 0-for-8. Barmes isn't playing either.
Omar Quintanilla, who had the walkoff home run against Cincinnati on Sunday, will start at second in place of Barmes. With Hawpe, who has been hitting cleanup against right-handed pitchers, not playing, Garrett Atkins will hit cleanup. Ian Stewart moves into the fifth slot.
FYI: With his 12th inning home run to beat Cincinnati on Sunday, Omar Quintanilla joininged Dante Bichette as the only Rockies to end a game of 12 or more innings with ahome run, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Bichette hit walk-off shots in the first game ever at Coors Field, a 14-inning win against the Mets on April 26, 1996, and in a 13-inning win against St. Louis at Coors Field on Aug. 30, 1996. Quintanilla's home run was the 28th game-ending home run in Rockies history.

The first game at Coors Field was April 25, 1995, not 1996.
