Smith starts in center; with lineups
Seth Smith will make his third start in center field and first at Coors Field. The others were at Washington and Los Angeles.
With an eye toward next season, manager Clint Hurdle wants to get a better read on how Smith handles the position. Willy Taveras might not be back, and Dexter Fowler is going to need some time _ no one knows how much _ at Triple-A Colorado Springs next season.
First baseman Joe Koshansky, who was recalled when the rosters were expanded this month, will make his first start this season for the Rockies, and second baseman Omar Quintanilla will make his first start since Sept. 2 and just his fourth start since Aug. 10.
Greg Reynolds, who had a rough outing Monday against the Padres, will start Sunday against Arizona, Hurdle said. Reynolds didn't retire any of the six batters he faced in the third and gave up nine hits and seven runs while losing 11-5. But since Reynolds figures in the Rockies future plans, giving him another start and, more importantly, the chance to rebound six days after his last debacle, makes sense.
