Gonzalez not steroid victim
Infielder Luis Gonzalez was suspended from playing professionally in Japan for a year for failing a drug test. He, however, did not test positive for steroids, despite reports to the contrary.
Gonzalez was suspended on May 25 last year after testing positive for three types of stimulants following the Yomiuri Giants April 30, 2008 game, according to Japanese news reports. Gonzalez, who the Rockies sold to Japan prior to the 2007 season, had hit .307 in 32 games for the Giants before testing positive for the use of amphetamines.
Gonzalez has been cleared by Major League Baseball. Medical officials supported Gonzalez in his explanation that the stimulants were contained in prescription medicine he takes for a gout-like problem that casues extremely swelling.
