Congratulations! YOU are Time's Person of the Year

I'd like to thank the little people and of course I have to share Time Magazine's Person of the Year award with YOU.
Time magzine named us - 'citizens of the digital democracy' it calls us - because we update Wikipedia, promote ourselves on You Tube and MySpace and blog ourselves silly on like this.

We represent, in Time's words, "he many wresting power from the few and helping one another for nothing and how that will not only change the world, but also change the way the world changes."

This is going to look so good on our resumes.

If Time hadn't named you and me, they would likely have gone with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad but apparently decided you can sell more magazines with pictures of you and me on the cover (actually it's Mylar acting like a mirror) than a guy who thinks the jury is still out on the Holocaust.

Was Time's choice inspired or a cop-out? Should they have picked Ahmadinejad based on his prominence on the world stage? Or Kim Jong Il, Abu Masal al Zarqawi or the citizens of Iraq? What about Stephen Colbert on the cultural front? Or Sacha Baron Cohen?

What a wimpy choice, of course it was a cop out. With numbers of subscribers down for the written news media, anything controversial would have caused cries of outrage and loss of dollars. If the editors at time can't make up their mind, don't have one!

You know print circulation is plummeting when Time pulls a suck-up like this one! :-)

And they chose to profile some of the most pathetic little exhibitionists on YouTube. Grassroots organizations such as CopWatch.com, which turns surveillance on its head, are much better examples of the Internet-empowered People.

If freaks like Ahmadinejad are eligible then freaks like Tancredo certainly are. Good point Will.
