Scenes from an afternoon commute
Guy in a small front-wheel drive car does a 180 on Cleveland Place.
Broadway a slightly moving parking lot from 16th Street all the way to Alameda. Top speed: 10 mph.
Guy in a Honda Prelude fishtailing just north of 13th Ave. Chance of accident before he gets home: 80%.
Two guys in another Prelude, this one with plastic sheeting over the driver's side window just about sideways around 2nd Avenue. One guy gets out and tries to push. Falls to his knees, gets back in car, slamming door on coat, which hangs a few inches out the bottom of the door.
Pickup giving a car a push for about half a block until the car starts.
Three guys trying to push a car out of a drift around Evans. One guy drops cigarette in snow. Some days nothing goes right.
Few businesses open. Most bars open. Commerce has its priorities.
Worst conditions were on side streets without tall buildings to block wind. Further I got from downtown, the scarier the weather.
Best listening to keep your spirits up: comedy channels on XM Radio, for which I have a three-month trial subscription.
Stopped at store to buy extra flashlight, firewood, Cheetos. Ready for all contingencies.

Verily! I'm near Broadway between Evans and Yale. One-story buildings for blocks around. My Subaru Impreza's hubcaps were buried. Even after digging them out, I couldn't move 20 feet through the drifts. Went back inside, lit a firelog, called my kid - who spent last night at a friend's house against my advice - and told him,
"Happy New Year, if I don't see you before then!"

It took me about 10 minutes to travel a mile from my office in downtown Denver. I make it through an alley then get stuck 10 feet from my parking spot.
Took an hour to shovel enough snow out from under my car to make it the rest of the way. Tomorrow morning, I'll be walking to work.

If Hicky wasn't so preoccupied with preschool for illegals and special rights for gays, maybe he would have been prepared for this mess.
