Snippy the UFO wonder horse

Snippy was a three-year-old Appaloosa mare whose untimely demise in a field near Alamosa back in 1967 became the first reported case of animal mutilation by space aliens.

And now Snippy is back in the news after her bones were offered for sale on eBay, reports Deborah Frazier.

There were no tracks or blood on the ground, but the skin and flesh from the withers to the head were removed, exposing the bone.

Lewis told the world media there was a strange, sweet odor that she likened to incense on the rural ranch in the area where Snippy's remains were found.

And the frenzy was on. Snippy's death sparked a surge of UFOlogy that brought hordes to the San Luis Valley and resulted in hundreds of UFO sightings.

Dr. Wallace Leary reconstructed Snippy's bones and found two bullet holes in the horse's left pelvic bone and right thigh bone which tossed a bit of cold water on the alien theory. Wildlife experts tended to blame coyotes but many folks would rather believe the spooky stuff:

Lewis said the marks on the ground around Snippy included six indentations that formed a circle 3 feet in diameter, the sort of imprint a UFO might leave, according to news accounts.

Lewis said she picked up a piece of the horse's mane and it burned her hands. Later, the boots she was wearing were found to be radioactive, she said.

Two years after Snippy's death, area residents said no grass would grow on the site where the carcass was found.

Snippy's bones went up on e-bay with a $50,000 reserve but the auction was put on hold because of a dispute over who owns the remains.

Notice how the UFO sightings started AFTER the whole alien frenzy started. I doubt there had been any sightings before the horse was found. Just like how, before 9/11, people would see someone in Arab garb and say "Hey, that person looks like an Arab." Now they say, "I'll bet that person is a terrorist." People see what they expect to see, what they want to see, whether it's there or not.

    666,

I'm sure Moses was just caught up in the frenzy. Or does floating pillar of fire not qualify because Moses didn't use the UFO word.

You know, I saw an interesting documentary on either History or Discovery, about some of these mutiliations, some cases which even the skeptics can't explain. Sure wish we knew what was really going on! I guess I'd be more comfortable with some psycho surgeon running around, than contemplate either ETs or gov't conspiracies. :-)

Cattle mutilations and UFOs are part of a CIA program to make the Russians think we have regular contact with aliens and their superior technologies.

    Christopher Buckley told me so!
