Broncos trade for cornerback Dre Bly
The Broncos traded for Detroit Lions' cornerback Dre Bly in a move that gives them one of the premiere cornerback tandems in the NFL, reports Lee Rasizer.
In exchange, Denver gave up enigmatic right offensive tackle George Foster and its leading rusher last season, Tatum Bell. Both players were entering the final years of their contract.
What do you think of the trade? Will Foster and Tatum Bell be easy to replace?

great day in bronco land, now we can get what we truly need and that is a running back. Mike Bell is a great 2nd back but we need a #1, Dare i Say Portis????

No, you may not say Portis. The rat doesn't need a high profile back. Just a fresh one out of college who can give the Broncos 3 good years before he wears out.

Im confused. Bly is, from what Ive read, a man to man cb that struggles in zone coverage. Champ used to be great at man to man in Wash, but has become AWESOME in zone here at denver. WTF? Seems like we should have been after another corner that will play solid zone, not man to man.

This why Mike Shanahan is the best coach in the NFL, he is not afraid to move dead wait. Tatum has run his last fumble in Denver, Bly and Champ well give the up front defenders more time to rush the QB. Mike Shanahan is a coach that is not afraid to make moves and I am excited to see what RB we get.

Bly is an extremely solid corner. Its very unfortunate with what happened to the late great #27, but with that, we needed an upgrade over Foxworth. I like the idea of the greatest corner in the game on one side and Mr Bly on the other. Champ can play either, man or zone, and Bly excels at man to man. Think of it, if we can get a pass rusher in the draft with the first pick, the defense will be able to do so much more because the two corners can play man and the front four can get pressure with more blitzes from the speedy Linebackers. Tatum couldnt hold onto the ball anyways, and Foster never amounted to what he was supposed to. Last thing- Last time we traded a running back for a corner... it turned out GREAT.

Foster had already pretty much been replaced.
And it's not hard to replace 1000 yards and several fumbles. GREAT TRADE.

See ya, George. Too bad the only time you showed up was for Nuggets games. Have fun in Detroit!
As far as for Bell, I hope that you can finally learn to take a hit and run upfield.
Welcome to Denver, Bly! May your time here be worthy of Defensive MVP consideration, much like the best CB in the league, Champ.

Good riddance to Tatum . . . he fumbled the ball more often than Kathy Sabine fumbles weather forecasts (read: too much). Maybe he'll correct this and become a solid back, but I doubt it. What I'll miss the most about him is his radio shows from Coyote Ugly. Him getting distracted by the dancers/bartenders never ceased to make me laugh.
Foster, well, I feel the same way as "benn." He (Foster) was just too big to be effective in the Donkeys scheme. I liked his dreads though.
Bly will be a tremendous asset but his impact will not truly be felt unless they can get some kind of pass rush going. The lines are the most important thing in football. If your defensive line can not put pressure on the QB, the corners have virtually no shot - unless that QB plays for the Raiders.

Not sad to see Bell go, but Dre Bly is the most overrated corner in the NFL. "Toast" should be his nickname.

Yeah .... that's why the guys at SI, Yahoo Sports, and ESPN are saying the Broncos just created the best cornerback tandem in the league, and why Bly is a 2-time pro bowler since his rookie year in 1999, when he was widely credited for saving the superbowl win for the Saints. Next.

Secondary vastly improved. Now we need a safety, defensive end and another defensive tackle and this D will be a force. I predict Broncos will draft: Rd. 1 DE; Rd.2 DT; Rd. 3a=WR; Rd.3b FB; Rd.6a OL Rd.6b OL Rd. 7 QB Free agent signings: FS Ken Hamlin; Jeff Garcia; TE Daniel Graham. Now the question is what will we get for Plummer?

Lou - since you mentioned Garcia, let me ask a question - but of course, everyone feel free to jump in: can you believe Phili let him go?
Maybe I missed something, but he pulled their bacon out of the fire, and with a bit more effort from some of the Eagles players, they could have gone far in the playoffs - still wouldn't have beat the Colts, but I thought Garcia really brought them around.
Any other opinions?

Sounds like they are still trying to cover those WRs. that Peyton is throwing to. This is a good move. That side always played too soft and Peyton killed us.
Its time to let DJ williams go too. Lets trade him for an elephant back like larry johnson or a Tight end .
We still need a probowl left tackle to keep the Joey Porters out of our face.
Btw its time to forget the draft. We draft lousy anyway. lets draft a punter and concentrate on trading for players. NewEngland is great at getting good veterans.

It is too bad we were in need of a corner, but we got the best available...
Spend the money on Kearney or draft Carriker??? Who knows, either would be an upgrade...
RB??? I'd love to see Thomas Jones in our system, but Marshawn Lynch would look awfully good too...
Dan Graham -- please come home...
Middle round safety -- how 'bout the super-freak athlete from Wyoming or the kid from Utah...
I'm out...
