Cinderella Drive-In fading to black after 35 years of popcorn, passion

Sometime in the wee hours of Sunday morning, the last image will flicker on the screens at Cinderella Twin Drive-In and one of the Denver's last two drive-in theaters will fade to black forever.
Lynn Bartels reports:
The Sheridan City Council voted 3-2 Wednesday to allow a 316-unit apartment complex to be built on the drive-in property. The Cinderella will show movies tonight and Saturday, and then it will close. "It's definitely a bummer," said Jim Goble, president of the company that operates the drive-in. "A part of Denver's culture is going away."
Bruce Leiman was a teenager in 1972 when his father built the drive-in, and then leased it to a company to operate.
"Imagine going to the drive-in with a date and getting in for free," he said, with a laugh. "That got me a lot of Brownie points."
Leiman said Thursday that he was involved in discussions in the 1990s about selling the property, but they fell through.
"The drive-in has always had a soft spot in our hearts," he said.
A proud drive-in dinosaur, named for a long-levelled mall, the theater sits on prime real estate across the street from a light rail station and Englewood City Center. A new Target/Costco shopping center is under construction just across Hampden.
Will you miss the drive-in? Will you try to take in one of the last nights this weekend? Was a drive-in part of your teenager experience?

AGAIN....no one is talking about bringing ALL the troops home...but rather bringing home many of them and redeploying the rest to secure positions of support.
We're all well aware that we're going to have to have a presence in Iraq for years to come because of the worst foreign policy decision in US history.

Okay buddy...since I see you're off the meds again today...I'll address your favorite strawman arguments in the hopes that we can have a conversation about your misconceptions and false talking points regarding our best options in Iraq okay?
As I've said MANY times...I agree that our immigration system needs overhauling...it is failing miserably. I am in agreement with the majority of americans who believe that we should be enforcing our border and labor laws...and that we should allow those immigrants already here to remain if they take the necessary steps to become citizens and contribute to our country.
As I've said MANY times, unions are an unfortunate necessity spawned from the existence of unethical corporations. That does not make me "pro or anti-union...just educated on the subject. In regards to allowing mexican trucks on US soil...at this time I don't think we have the infrastructure available to ensure proper oversight of such a system...thus making it a poor choice at this time to move goods into the US from Mexico. If down the road there is still a need for such a system (something that is still up for debate)...then I will reevaluate our situation at that time and leave emotion out of it...as usual....a tact you might think about adopting at some point.
So...back to the point...no one is talking about abandoning the iraqis. No one is talking about withdrawing all of our troops.
Do you acknowledge that fact?
Furthermore...I'll ask you the question that KW doesn't have the huevos to answer...
My position is that we either give our troops the necessary resources to make progress in Iraq (another 150K troops, as our military experts have been saying for YEARS)...or we allow them to withdraw or redeploy to secure positions of support.
As our own generals have said publicly that our armed forces are at "the breaking point"...I believe we can't provide our soldiers the must have tools without reinstating the draft...no matter how many mercenaries we pay in Iraq.
Now...considering those issues...would you agree that we either give our troops the tools necessary to win or bring them home or redeploy them?
Furthermore...if you DO NOT believe the draft is necessary to accomplish this...what alternative do you propose?

Jay,
"I agree that our immigration system needs overhauling"--jay
No, it just needs to be enforced and we need to have a President with kahunas to build a double sided smart fence the lenght of our border.
"and that we should allow those immigrants already here to remain if they take the necessary steps to become citizens and contribute to our country."--jay
So you think that because they broke our laws we should put them at the front of the line?
I don't know what steps you are talking about beings the bill with the steps to become a Legal citizen was shot down twice.
"no one is talking about abandoning the iraqis. No one is talking about withdrawing all of our troops."--jay
That is excactly what many on the left were asking for and are still asking for.
Hillary and Ewbama have switched positions so many times they don't know what to say anymore.
We agree that many more troops should have been added from the begining just as Colin Powell suggested.
As far as the draft, I don't think we need one. The current surge is working for the most part, it isn't ideal but to bring back the draft would be the worst thing we could do and yes I know you on the left would love to reintroduce the draft so you can hate Bush some more.
O.K. you can all have your thread back.

Not in the front of the line. I agree with the mainstream position on this issue...we can agree to disagree on it...but please don't imply that a guest worker program with a path to citizenship isn't supported by nearly 7 out of 10 americans okay?
"That is excactly what many on the left were asking for and are still asking for."
I'm calling you out. Show me where any of the Dem front runners said anything like this.
If you can't...then politiely concede the point and move on.
"As far as the draft, I don't think we need one. The current surge is working for the most part,"
This myth has been debunked here by so many different people that you are actually doing your credibility harm by pretending it hasn't been.
please move on...sticking your head in the sand and simpy refusing to acknowledge facts because they destroy your ridiculous position isn't a valid debate tactic.
SO...I"ll ask again...if don't agree that we need the draft to send in the 150K troops needed to "win" in Iraq (even if you won't define that for us).....how do you propose we get the troops the necessary reinforcements?
That's not a rhetorical question by the way...I"m looking for your alternative to a draft that wil produce the 150k troops necessary for Iraq.
AND....if we can't...or worse...are unwilling to provide our troops the tools necessary to make progress....do you agree that at that point they should be allowed to come home or redeploy?

I never ever want to put a timestamp on the withdrawl like many Dems want to do but as soon as possible I want all of our troops home however I can see us having some sort of troop level there for the distant future, mabye for ever.
It is not an option to lose this war even if it is widley unpopular and everbody hates Bush.

So we're back to the same question you refuse to answer.
our best military experts have been saying for YEARS that we'll need 150K MORE troops in order to make the kind of progress you just described. SOOOOOOO....I say that we either send them the troops or send them home or redeploy them.
DO YOU AGREE?
If so....and considering that our own generals say our armed services are at the "breaking point"....we will need to reinstate the draft in order to provide our troops with the resources to accomplish the goals you say they need to before they get to come home or redeploy.
If you disagree and believe that a draft isn't necessary to provide those 150K needed troops....what is your alternative for coming up with them?

For creeps sake jay can you imagine if Bush said he was going to send in another 15 thousand troops let alone 150 thousand troops. I think the anti-war crowd would all have aneurysms.
I still believe in what we are doing in Iraq.

A few things you should consider while I wait:
We are not making progress...according to the Pentagon, GAO and the Iraqi Gov't
Our own best military experts have said for YEARS that it will take 150K more troops to make progress in Iraq
We do not have that kind of manpower at our disposal because as our own generals admit, our armed forces are at "a breaking point".
You and KW are going to have to come to terms with these facts before you can answer the questions I posed.
Until you do...you can not say you're basing your conslusions on the reality in iraq.
Support our troops or bring them home.
