Focus on Family: just kidding about praying for rain during Obama event

"I know to you, it might sound strange, but I wish it would rain." - The Temptations

"I'm talking 'umbrella-ain't-going-to-help-you rain." Focus on the Family's self-styled satricial plea for prayers for rain during Barack Obama's acceptance speech at Invesco Field.

Those fun-loving folks at Focus on the Family have pulled their pray-for-rain video, insisting it was "meant to be mildly humorous."

But complaints from about a dozen Focus members convinced the organization to pull the video, said Tom Minnery, Focus Action vice president of public policy.

"If people took it seriously, we regret it," Minnery said Monday.

Since Focus on the Family hates gay men, or any lifestyle that isn't prescribed by their peculiar interpretation of the Bible. Their desire to bring bad weather via prayer does call into question one of their cherished religious claims.

If God wanted everyone to worship Him then why did he create skeptical "alpha" males?

Wouldn't He, in His Infinite Wisdom, expect a bunch of us to say, "I ain't going to worship you, Divine Butthead! Look at this huge mess You put us in! I can do a better job! Step aside and let me do it."

So, God would then have to create gay men who could really love him. But that still leaves out most of the rest of us guys. Then you have a bunch of God-fearing men. Those in Focus on the Family must cringe at all that fire and brimstone. They're God's Own chickens and certainly aren't alpha enough to defy God. But they get jealous of gay men because only they can really love God completely.

The best answer to this quandary is that God must be a Woman.

And a much bigger question to ponder... rather than worry about where man came from, or the world for that matter. But just where exactly did God come from?

Mind boggling indeed, don't you agree? And I consider myself a (non church attending) Christian.

But the Bible doesn't suggest this at all, it tells us we were created along with earth.
But man has only been on earth for a very very short period of time compared to the earths age.
I find many things in the Bible hard to swallow, such as the splitting of the sea, sticks into snakes ect..

Like I said, this is one subject I try to stay away from...just in case, if you know what I mean.

Science seems to have the more logical reasoning about how life began with a ice meteorite crashing into earth bringing water thus with the sun, creating simple single celled organisms.
It has been proven that our Universe is expanding suggesting that a huge explosion occurred.

It is indeed mind boggling to say the least.

I do know one thing though and that is we are so very fragile, just one thing out of place such as the sun to close or too far or not at all or the absent of the moon, we would never be!!

Actually something I can agree with you guys on... While I may seem vicious to religious people, it is really intended for those "religious" people that use their religion as an excuse for their prejudges or when they think they have all the answers and we need to follow them. Dobson is a perfect example.

I will admit I tend to agree with what KW just said, MAYBE God or some supreme being caused the big bang, etc... We just don't know. No one does... But I'm of the opinion that IF there is a God or whatever, he is too large and our understanding is too small to fit him neatly under one religion... if any... Thus I am against any one religion trying to inject their religion into any school teachings (at least public schools). Just the facts please!

I actually can relate to what you say about trying to aviod religion with your daughter shaggy... I'm in the same boat myself.

Grew up in a big, Irish Catholic family and I have turned away from the Catholic church for many personal reasons and opinions about the Catholic church... but I consitantly find myself having to sit through church (up & down... up & down. Other Catholics will know what I am talking about...haha) with a fake smile on my face and fighting the urge to go running from the building for the sake of my family during Christenings, Confermations, funerals, etc... Maybe I'm just in it for the parties afterwards. Irish wakes & post confermation / communnions are a blast! One thing about being a Catholic, all you gotta do is repent at the end... (wink, wink)

AUGUST 25 2008 INVITATION TO SPEAKING EVENT MCDC Calls for Pledge on Border Security at Democratic National Convention

PHOENIX, AZ — Chris Simcox, President and Founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC), today declared an open invitation to the “Democrat National Convention Free-Speech Zone” where he and the Colorado MCDC will be joined by a lineup of nationally-recognized speakers on the opening day of the Democratic National Convention to call on Senators Barack Obama and John McCain to pledge to the American people a “comprehensive, principled yet practical solution to securing the borders, winning the war on drugs, and ending illegal immigration.”

The August 25th speakers will include Congressman Tom Tancredo, America’s Independent Party Presidential Candidate Alan Keyes, Libertarian Presidential Candidate Bob Barr, Constitution Party Presidential and Vice-Presidential Candidates Chuck Baldwin and Darryl Castle, William Greene of Right March, Columnist Frosty Wooldridge, and MCDC’s Vice-Chairman Carmen Mercer and Executive Director Al Garza.

The event is slated to begin in Congress Park, Denver, Colorado at 10 AM MST and will end at 6 PM MST.

Explaining the purpose of the event, Simcox detailed, “We have a rare situation in our national political landscape where both major party candidates for president refuse to address a top national issue that’s vitally important to the American people. Over 80% of Americans want border security, yet we haven’t heard word one from either Obama or McCain on what they’ll do as President to materially secure our borders and protect our national security and sovereignty.”

Simcox continued, “We refuse to let them sweep this critical issue under the carpet while American cities and towns are overrun by drug cartels, organized crime, 3rd-world diseases and economic instability. We’re going to hold their feet to the fire.” FOR MORE INFO CONTACT

Hehe. Again, I dont hate God. But if you want to tell me that you KNOW what God wants, and so you can set LAWS regulating my behavior...well, as I said, the people who founded this country fought and died to stop that kind of religious based tyranny. Understand it now: The problem is not "God". The problem is not "Religion". The problem is PEOPLE who use God and Religion as a bases for tyranny against others of dissimilar belief. YOU dont get to tell me what to believe chump. I have GUARANTEED freedom of religon, meaning I can believe whatever I want. YOU dont get to tell me what my morals should be based on what YOU believe. I have FREEDOM to set MY OWN morals, and I dont need your help, any more than you needed mine.

Firemen risk their lives to save people from a burning building.

Similarly, Focus on the Family tries to save people from spending enternity in hell. But, amazingly the very people who are being rescued hurl angry expletives at their rescuers.

That response doesn't make any sense.

But obviously people who sin don't want to stop their sinning. So they attack anyone who warns them to not destroy their lives.

Rather than attack Focus on the Family, Jay should read the Bible. God clearly tells us what he wants us to do, and not to do.

And it is God to whom we will have to explain our defiance against His commands, during our very brief time on earth.

Will we be able to convince Him that we deserve to be in Heaven??

"Firemen risk their lives to save people from a burning building."

And you can actually see a building on fire. There is heat. There are flames. There is PROOF.

"Similarly, Focus on the Family tries to save people from spending enternity in hell."

No proof. Just belief. And every person on earth has a constitutionally guaranteed right to believe different. I dont care if you "Believe" in your heart of hearts you are trying to save someone else. If they dont believe the same, youve got NO RIGHT to force what you believe on them. PERIOD.

"Rather than attack Focus on the Family, Jay should read the Bible. God clearly tells us what he wants us to do, and not to do."

And Focus on the Family CLEARLY takes what they want from the bible, and throws out the rest. Additionally, the bible is only the word of God if you BELIEVE it is. And since everyone has the right to BELIEVE otherwise, your belief doesnt entitle you to trample the rights of others.

"And it is God to whom we will have to explain our defiance against His commands, during our very brief time on earth."

Again, your belief. You are entitled to it, and I have no problem with what you have chosen to believe. I have a problem with you trying to force me to make the same choice. Its not your place to do so. PERIOD.

And then of course we have the central fallacy of your belief system; God is infinitely just, loving, and forgiving. Somehow, this ifinitely just, loving, and forgiving God will throw you in a lake of fire forever if you disobey him. There is no way to justify doing that, regardless of one's crime. Its simply disgusting. There is no way an "infinitely loving" God could do something so unloving as to burn people forever. And there is no way you can call a God "Infinetly forgiving" when the punnishment for disobediance is so harsh, and so final that there is NO opportunity for forgiveness whatsoever. Just ridiculous.
