No Boss at Obama's rising

Bruce Springsteen won't appear today at Barack Obama's acceptance, the campaign has announced.

And the Los Angeles Times' Top of the Ticket blog wonders if The Rising was an appropriate song to play when Springsteen appeared onstage last night.

An excellent song, to be sure, but a strange one for a campaign rally. Perhaps an Obama staffer just heard the title and listened to the chorus and thought, "Hey, it's a song about rising, like we want to do in the polls!"

The Ronald Reagan campaign was criticized in 1984 for having "Born in the USA" played during campaign stops, confusing a Vietnam War song with a patriotic anthem. For us, this was a similar faux pas -- it took a bit away from a moment meant to be inspiring to hear a song about death played so loudly.

Next time, the Obama camp might consider Springsteen's "Waitin' on a Sunny Day."

Well, beings questions are starting to surface about Obamas true Citizenship, I don't think it would be appropriate to play "born in the U.S.A".

Maybe he should play "an illegal alien"

I'll suggest he do covers, since all of his so-called "music" is overrated, puerile crap:

For George Hussein Obama in Kenya, either "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" or "We Are Family"

For Bill Clinton, "Livin' Lovin' Maid" or The Human League's "Don't You Want Me Baby" or Frank Zapppa's "Don't You Want a Man Like Me"

For Hillary, "Pigs on the Wing" by Pink Floyd.

For Michelle Osama: "Mongoloid" by Devo or Frank Zappa's "I Am the Slime"

For Nasty Pelooozer: "Fool on the Hill" or the theme from "Popeye"

And for the entire Dhimmi Party, how about a nice rousing rendition of "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Sexually Aroused Gas Mask" by Frank Zappa.

I don't think Born In the USA is the best choice -- it's really a sad, angry story about betrayal. The Rising is another possibility.

Springsteen is our greatest national poet when it comes to examining the meaning of this country in song. His presence automatically lends a great deal of intellectual credibility to the Obama campaign. I'm very glad he will be here, even though I won't be witnessing the event in person.

then maybe "Reason to Believe" or "Long Time Coming" or "Land of hope and dreams", "Promised land" would be fitting also.

I bet the Boss plays a song that he has never played in public before.

Born in the USA is about another era, but it does express the plight of the outcast veteran that is definitely a problem today. The GOP are gung-ho for the troops staying and fighting in Iraq, but they don't seem to care too much about their lives when they come back from the war. They even question someone's patriotism if they question the need to be fighting in Iraq, but how can you call yourself patriotic if you have no concern for our troops when they come home?

The poster named Guy really catches the indifference of the GOP. What is he saying? That we should be proud of the indifference paid to the men who have risked their lives for our freedom? We shouldn't be ashamed that the GOP Congress ignored the medical and psychological needs of our retired fighting men and women? That Bush and Cheney aren't concerned about the education and employment of men and women who have sacrificed for the rest of us?

But it isn't surprising because sacrifice is not a word found in the GOP lexicon.

In the clothes that Ayat wore-

    He's a bomber waiting for a war
    Time will come
    He'll hold a bomb

    And as he grows
    He hears the band
Takes the step from boy to man
And at the shore they wave her brother goodbye
Like the girl they did before
    Arab pride
    Just a boy
    His sister's eyes
He's a bomber waving at the shore
And in their heart the time has come
    To lose a son

And all the husbands, all the sons, all the lovers gone
    They make no difference
    No difference in the end
Still hear the grandmas say your brother died a hero
In the name of Allah and man

    Arab pride
    Crazy boy
    His lifeless eyes
    He's a soldier now forevermore
He'll hold a bomb till kingdom come
