What did you think of Sarah Palin's acceptance speech?

Palinspeechrtl.jpg

Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska introduced herself to a national primetime audience with a speech that was part biography, part issues and part attack on the Democratic ticket.

"In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers," she said in a barbed reference to Barack Obama's campaign theme.

"And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change," she added in remarks prepared for tonight's prime-time address to the Republican National Convention.

In a second unmistakable jab at McCain's White House opponent, Palin traced her career as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, to governor of her state, adding: "I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a 'community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities."

As a young man, Obama did a stint as a community organizer.

The Alaska governor had top billing at the convention on a night delegates also lined up for a noisy roll call of the states to deliver their presidential nomination to McCain.

Palin, 44, also jabbed at the news media, which have raised convention week questions about her background and her family, including her 17-year-old unmarried, pregnant daughter.

"Here's little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion -- I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country."

What did you think of the speech? Did she make a convincing case for her candidacy? Did she help John McCain? Did she hurt Barack Obama? Are you more convinced - or less - that McCain made the right choice?

Well, she's able to read a speech.
She's able to read the rather petty attacks written for her about Obama and Biden.
Did she provide any analysis or philosophy of anything other than drill, drill, drill? No. She did however mislead about Obama's tax policy and she pretty much outright lied when she said she opposed the bridge to nowhere and fought against earmarks. My God, the woman hired a big time lawyer to lobby Washington for over 27 million in earmarks for her town when she was mayor.
I found it a small speech, with misleading statements and petty attacks. She did nothing to convince me she is anything more than a cynical play by McCain to get the woman vote. Based on tonight's performance, I don't think it is going to work.

I think Sarah Palin gave a great speech! Was glad to see her strength, wit and humor. Those VP debates should be interesting, if she is as able to speak extemporaneously as she can with prepared remarks.

And she didn't exploit her family; rather, she responded to the vile attacks on her family by introducing them to us. It's so much easier to attack someone who doesn't have a face, isn't it?

The speech was very immature, filled with one liner shots more reminiscent of slam comedian than someone running for Vice President. I don't think that reflects on her very well outside of the base that already knows her. Very petty, with the truth seemingly stretched numerous times. In praising herself, she also inadvertantly (presumably) was attacking McCain along with her attacks on Obama and Biden.

I also found it most offensive to use her youngest child, who she is leaving thousands of miles away despite his extraordinary needs, as she campaigns for a job.

All in all, not what I expected, and frankly, I found it very disappointing and difficult to listen to. The hard core will love it...me? Not so much.

She's a Polly-anna in serious need of a makeover. More importantly, she's a gun toting right wing radical, a lifetime member of the NRA, and especially an enemy to wildlife and the environment:

Find out how your Senators and Representatives have voted.

    Sarah Palin and the Environment
Governor Sarah Palin has an extreme anti-conservation record on issues ranging from global warming, energy and drilling to wildlife and habitat protection.

Aerial hunting of wolves and bearsGovernor Palin is an active promoter of Alaska's aerial hunting program whereby wolves and bears are shot from the air or chased by airplanes to the point of exhaustion before the pilot lands the plane and a gunner shoots the animals point blank.

Palin offered a $150 bounty for wolves to entice hunters to kill more wolves in certain parts of the state, with hunters having to present a wolf's foreleg to collect the bounty.

She actively opposed a ballot measure campaign seeking to end the aerial hunting of wolves by private hunters and approved a $400,000 state-funded campaign aimed at swaying people's votes on the issue.

She also introduced legislation to make it easier to kill wolves and bears and which would have also removed the aerial hunting initiative from the ballot and block the ability of citizens to vote on the issue.

The Board of Game, which she appoints, has approved the killing of black bear sows with cubs as part of the program and expanded the aerial control programs.

The media is currently looking into reports that state officials implementing one of the aerial wolf killing programs illegally killed five-week old wolf pups just outside their dens.

Global WarmingAs recently as August 2008, Governor Palin questioned whether man-made fossil fuel emissions are responsible for global warming, defying worldwide scientific consensus (Newsmax 8/29/08). And her drill-drill-drill approach to energy issues will do nothing to ease the causes of global warming, promote the use of clean, renewable energy sources, or break our addiction to foreign oil.

Endangered SpeciesPalin has repeatedly opposed the listing of endangered animals under the Endangered Species List despite overwhelming scientific evidence that such listings are warranted.

Polar BearThe U.S. Geological Survey predicts that loss of summer sea ice - crucial habitat for polar bears - could lead to the demise of two-thirds of the world's polar bears by mid-century, including all of Alaska's polar bears. The Bush administration has proposed listing the polar bears as threatened under the ESA to help protect polar bear habitat from threats such as oil and gas development.

Governor Palin has actively opposed the listing of the polar bear despite the fact that Alaska's top marine mammal biologists agreed with the federal scientists who believed the bear should be listed. She wrote the Secretary of Interior urging him not to list the bear on the ground it might hurt the state's oil- and gas-dependent economy. After the bear was listed, she recently filed suit seeking to overturn the listing of polar bears.

Beluga WhalesAlaska's Cook Inlet beluga whales are a unique group of white whales whose numbers have dramatically declined in the past two decades due to pressures ranging from pollution to increased ship traffic. Governor Palin opposes the listing of the Cook Inlet beluga whales, citing the listing as a threat to oil and gas development, despite their genetic uniqueness and the fact that their numbers have decreased from 1,300 in the 1980s to about 350 today.

DrillingPalin is a strong supporter of drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, a vital wilderness area. It is home to hundreds of thousands of caribou who use the refuge as a calving ground, more than one million migratory birds, and countless other wildlife. It's the most important onshore denning habitat for female polar bears. Senator McCain himself has repeatedly voted to protect this pristine wilderness area. Palin is also a supporter of drilling in Bristol Bay and other offshore sites despite the risks to sensitive marine wildlife in the area, including the endangered polar bear and Beluga whale.

Clean Water and Pebble MineGovernor Palin actively campaigned against a state ballot measure this summer aimed at protecting Alaska's Bristol Bay. The mining industry seeks to develop a gold and copper mine in the area that would pollute the Bay's headwaters and threaten the spawning grounds for the largest remaining wild salmon run. The initiative would have prevented large-scale mining operations from dumping waste materials into salmon watersheds.

My housemates and I (not all Dems, by the way) could not believe that she would be so bold as to tell an absolute untruth.

Also, who here is saying Palin is a feminist? Seriously? Have you heard about choice?? It's kind of a big deal to "real" feminists.

There are several quotes floating around where she clearly states her *support* for the pork projects, as long as they benefit her constituents:

"As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."

    SDaedalus writes:

I thought Palin’s delivery was nearly flawless, with a strong clear voice, effective hand-motions, and smooth interplay with the audience, that was clearly fired up to hear her.

The actual content of her speech is a mixed-bag. There was the expected bolstering of McCain and fairly aggressive attacks on Obama. As noted above, some statements went beyond unflattering framing (the mocking of Obama’s ‘community organizer’ job) to easily refuted falsehoods (her bridge-to-nowhere anecdote). And there little/no mention of specific policies that a McCain/Palin ticket would pursue. Palin also avoided discussing the social-conservative traits that made her a darling with the core GOP ‘values-voters' but will scare off potential Hilary converts.

Palin matched Biden’s aggressiveness in attacking the opposing ticket (the usual VP candidate task) and integrated her family-members into her narrative, which will make it harder for the GOP to continue the recent attempts to paint the scrutiny of her own political record and family issues as somehow unfair or sexist. By repeating the pit-bull-with-lipstick line, Palin invites the fight and she’s on the record that Hilary was wrong to whine when her male opponents attacked her as they would any other candidate.

The core GOP voters no doubt loved both the delivery and content, but I doubt she forged much lasting connection with key swing voters, since we didn’t learn much more about Palin than they already knew from the announcement and GOP press-releases. By presenting a 2-dimensional portrait of herself, closely hewn to the campaign’s talking points, I think Palin failed to put flesh-to-the-bones of the press releases or unflattering media scrutiny. For example, Palin’s off-hand shrug and vague reference to her family problems was not substantially different from the McCain campaign spokesman slacker-like description “Life happens.” Even most of her one-liners have already appeared in print or prior speeches/talk-show guests.

On the whole, I think Palin’s speech was a solid double for the GOP…demonstrating that she has poise and confidence in scripted public speaking, but safely erring on the side of vague-and-bland rather than detailed-and-genuine, when it comes to helping undecided voters get a sense of what makes her tick. Given Palin’s aggressiveness and generally strong (albeit cosmetic) first impression, I won’t be surprised if the Obama campaign turns up their attacks against her (more than they were planning), using the repeated falsehoods from tonight’s speech against her.

Unfortunately, my life-long affiliation with the Republican Party has had to come to an abrupt end. The Republicans are offering nothing but rhetoric and half truths. They must think we are really unintelligent, uninformed, or both to believe this nonsense. I'm pro-life, and you know what, I don't think a woman that's nearly gleeful about moose hunting is pro-life. Is she? She's pro the unnecessary killing of God's creatures. I am not so naive as to think my daughter won't turn out like Sarah Palin's, but I do know that were I in her shoes, I wouldn't be gleefully parading my pregnant daughter around the nation with her boyfriend on national television as if to say, "Hey, it's okay to get pregnant by your 17-year old boy friend! Rah, rah, rah!" It's not ok. It's not. I'll always love my daughter unconditionally, but I would be incredibly disappointed. I wouldn't consider her a national role model, and that's exactly what Sarah Palin is doing with her daughter by parading her around like a token Juneau Juno for the Hillary supporters.

No, people, the time really has finally come for me to change. I will, hence forth, vote democrat and today I change to Obama / Biden 2008.

I also think it’s interesting how they are trying to steal Obama's theme of change by saying, "Even though we aren't really going to do anything differently, we are the real agents of change!"

And it is irritating to hear them talk about how strong McCain is and how we can depend on him to put America first even though he has caved in to the right wing of the party by choosing Palin and switched from most of his previous stances against the Bush tax cuts and environmental policy.

And by the way, did you know that McCain served his country by being a POW?!?

The lying was pretty lame though. Its one thing to attack your opponents position because you think its wrong and have a better alternative. It is ENTIRELY another to lie about their position, and then attack the lies. I think its funny that two of the posters in this thread who support her the most bought into the strawment arguments like they were gold. Still havent learned what a strawman fallacy is huh?

And things like this are just pathetic...

"Too bad (for liberals)everything she said, including her attacks on Obama, were true."

I mean my god, can you actually be this dense? Obama has laid out his platform how many times? Go ahead, be a partisan hack all you like. But just blindly buying OBVIOUS lies about what the Democrats are planning on doing is taking it a bit far...dont you think? Then agian, there is that study that says partisan hacks only use their brains half the time...looks like youre out to prove it.

"She struck a chord with mothers from all walks of life, all across our voting republic."

This is probably true. But unfortunatley there was also this:
"By not having the patience to wait while your comments posts, you show a great deal of immaturity."
    Followed by this:
"Wasn't the last 8 years in therapy enough to get you over your BDS, and this hate you have for all those who disagree with your ideology?"

Do you understand how an argument is framed? You cant bash people for being "immature", then bash them with the most immature crap you can personally come up with. Kinda weakens your position, ya know? And Im a fan of the immature attacks. You just cant bash others for being immature, then go about being immature yourself.

All that said, there were really some good posts with analysis that was very decent. Good to see some people are taking this seriously, rather than just chearleading their party based on emotion and absolutely NO critical thought. And Lisa J. in particular makes me think there may be hope for this country after all.

Yeah, dumbfounded. Not by her speech. By the comments from people on here who after all this time don't understand the first thing about politics. So then they get on a public forum and piss and moan, and say stupid things like, "I was mad the whole time", "she lied", "she read a script", "she just slammed Obama", blah, blah, blah.

Just last week the Dems did precisely the same things. Exactly. No difference. You really think Obama is going to read each line of the budget. LOL! Never gonna happen. And it sure was great of Obama and Biden, Bill and Hill, and Al to not make any put-down statements about their opponents last week, wasn't it?

So at least admit it. You heard what you wanted to hear based on your party and who you're going to vote for anyway. Go ahead and be honest instead of coming on here and frickin' lying through your teeth, and acting all indignant. Children with computers. No, that's wrong. Children are more intelligent.

Here's what you do. Put the PC away. Go to the library. Find several good books on "Civics", and our political system and processes. Read them. Read them again. Then find the old video and film of conventions past. All the way back to the 40's and 50's if you can find them. You'll find that not much has changed since then.

And by the way, speaking of her child with Downs, yeah, I suppose you could spin in the way several posters did and say she was "using" the child, if you really want to stay in your ignorant world. She has been told that one of her duties would be to push for better understanding of disabilities, and outlining plans to provide better assistance for them and helping find how to prevent things like that from happening in the first place, probably through greater research in genetics and stem cells, just like each First Lady takes on something important to them. But no, it's easier to believe she's using her kid to play on sympathies.

You know, despite Obama not having much in the way of actual experience as a Senator, I'm finding that most people, from both parties, are listening to him. And he and Biden seem to be a pretty solid team. Even as a registered Republican I'm listening to everything I can find about their plans, and strongly considering voting for them.

But frankly, it wasn't what was said at the Dem convention that counts. Most of what Obama and Biden said was pie in the sky crapola; tax breaks for 95% of Americans ain't gonna happen people; fast renewable energy (or even the old stuff) is a pipe dream because it takes years and years; and most of the other stuff was slam commentary that was on a teleprompter too. It's what comes after the conventions that counts. Debates. Tough questions. Precise plans being unveiled. So calm down. The Dems had their shot last week, the Reps have theirs this week.

    http://coverawards.com/2008/09/03/news_peggy_noonan_mike_murphy_disparage_sarah_palin_4819/#more-9522

Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan and former John McCain adviser and MSNBC contributor Mike Murphy were caught on tape disparaging John McCain’s selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate.

Here’s the transcript where Chuck Todd of MSNBC thought they were going off the air:

Chuck Todd: Mike Murphy, lots of free advice, we’ll see if Steve Schmidt and the boys were watching. We’ll find out on your blackberry. Tonight voters will get their chance to hear from Sarah Palin and she will get the chance to show voters she’s the right woman for the job Up next, one man who’s already convinced and he’ll us why Gov. Jon Huntsman. (cut away)

Make the jump to see what was said after the cut away!

    Peggy Noonan: Yeah.

Mike Murphy: You know, because I come out of the blue swing state governor world: Engler, Whitman, Tommy Thompson, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush. I mean, these guys — this is how you win a Texas race, just run it up. And it’s not gonna work. And –

    PN: It’s over.

MM: Still McCain can give a version of the Lieberman speech to do himself some good.

CT: I also think the Palin pick is insulting to Kay Bailey Hutchinson, too.

    PN: Saw Kay this morning.

CT: Yeah, she’s never looked comfortable about this –

    MM: They’re all bummed out.

CT: Yeah, I mean is she really the most qualified woman they could have turned to?

PN: The most qualified? No! I think they went for this — excuse me– political bullshit about narratives –

CT: Yeah they went to a narrative.

    MM: I totally agree.

PN: Every time the Republicans do that, because that’s not where they live and it’s not what they’re good at, they blow it.

MM: You know what’s really the worst thing about it? The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical.

CT: This is cynical, and as you called it, gimmicky.

    MM: Yeah.

    Emilia writes:

How very ironic that this republican ticket is busily touting change when it is the very republicans they have long followed and worshiped that force us to need said change in the first place. John McCain has been Bush's toy poodle for many, many years- and the same forces that have puppeted these two men, will continue their very destructive path.

To hear her rant on about the Democrats and big government shows just how deep the denial goes... the Bush government is the largest government ever in the course of the history of our country, and if these idiots take over, it will get much, much bigger. At this point, every man, woman and child in the country has a debt of over $30,000 because of this war. To carry on about "winning" an un-winnable war at the cost of billions more dollars, and how many more lives is just asinine. We can do much better work with that money.

Once again, the republicans have shown themselves to be the party of financial greed and fiscal irreponsibilty, hypocracy that leaves one speechless, incredibly partisan rhetoric, denial, and the wish to control the minutia of families' lives.

None of these people were talking about "change" in Washington until Obama began using it as a talking point for his campaign. Then suddenly they were all on it. Especially laughable was Laura Bush up there talking about the changes now needed when it was her idiot husband that got us into this mess.

Sarah appreciates that she and her daughter were able to make the choice to keep the baby and handle the matter of teen pregnancy as a family, yet she wants to take that choice away from every woman and family in this country. That's about as ridiculous as if some party made a law stating that teen pregnancies had to be aborted. It makes no sense, and it's no one else's business. Why must this issue be the backbone of every republican agenda? For a bunch of people who think god made everything, have they ever bothered to question god on why he made plants that naturally induce abortion (that people and animals have used since the beginning of time)?

The truth is that they want the power to shove a bible and their agenda down every woman's throat. They will do everything in their power to make sure a baby is born- and look at their record here- but once the baby is born, it's on it's own. No healthcare, no support for single mothers trying to work and raise a child, fewer and fewer jobs, skyrocketing costs. They do not care about people once they are out of the womb.

She claims to know that Obama is not fit to lead- and some at the the convention called him the "most unqualified candidate ever to run." Ummmm...can you say "BUSH?"!!!!!!!!!!!! Talk about a man without a clue or a a care in the world. Bush went to Yale on a Cheerleading scholarship and almost flunked out. Got into the military on his daddy's coat-tails, but never fought, and has damaged nearly every valuable foreign relationship we once held so dear. Putin smiles for pictures with him, but does his own thing and doesn't listen at all.

Contrast that with the self-made man Obama is- getting himself into Harvard and graduating at the top of his class- for those doubters, that's not easy. His leadership skills come from knowing people, and caring about their stories. He didn't serve in the military, and you think that's cause to call him unqualified? Please. With a family rich in military history he's seen both the good that a justified war can do- release of the Holocaust victims- and the evil that an unjustified war can do- our current situation. I want a man in the White House who will use war sparingly, and for the right reasons, not a man who uses it to keep the war machine economy alive for his rich buddies. As parents and family members, we should all want that.

And McCain is well known for having one of the worst tempers in Washington. Great, just what we need right now- another Nixon.

Both Bush and McCain have suckled the teat of the government for their entire lives- and Sarah took office to pay the bills, not wanting to sacrifice a comfortable lifestyle for the comfort of others. None of them know a thing about the struggles the average family is facing right now, and none of them care. They'll spew their classless venom, tout their ongoing failures as great successes in the hopes you'll ignore your own plight and believe them, and hope they take control so they can run the country by bible and not constitution. What a shame if people buy into this.

And I guarantee that had Obama been in the White House, New Orleans would be thriving and bustling again, not being used for photo-ops of a phony concern for people's well-being.

    This is from MoveOn.org:
Who is Sarah Palin? Here's some basic background:

    * She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.1
    * Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.2
    * She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000. 3
    * Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.4
    * She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.5
    * She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.6
    * How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.7

I am proud to be voting for Obama and his family, Biden and his family, and the amazing people following them. My very republican husband is also proudly voting for Obama- going so far as to personally order yard signs.

Hillary supporters, I know sometimes it's hard to figure out where to turn, but Sarah Palin is NOT Hillay. She has been nothing but disprespectful towards Hillary, and has an agenda completely opposite. I have no doubt that under an Obama leadership, the next Supreme Court opening will be offered to Hillary- a far more powerful position, and one completely befitting her tremendous skills and knowledge. Under McCain- more Roberts, Thomases and Scalias- and our rights whittled away again to nothing.

The republicans- the party of old white men and their darling tart hoping that they can further destroy your lives and our shared planet in the name of money. These are the most morally bankrupt people I have ever seen.

I am not voting for this ticket. I found after her speech, which was well given, she still does not represent me or my family. In my family children come before career-no matter what the opportunity. A womans choice comes before governments dictation of that choice. War mongering about Russia or other countries with a self imposed view that America is the only right country and they are the only right party actually got the wrong reaction from me, it was divisive, Bush like, and arrogant. I can not deal with another arrogant and self serving team in the white house. Therefore, I congratulate Gov. Palin on a well given speech, but I would not vote for this ticket.

She's going to be the domestic policy side of the ticket, but considering voters are less concerned about Iraq now, this isn't as important politically as critics think.

Palin has among the least experience in foreign policy, which means she won't be able to smell out the fraudsters who will give Palin the same bad advice they've given McCain and Bush.

The McCain/Palin ticket vaguely reminds me of the Andrew Jackson presidency, which brought war heroes and rednecks into the White House.

Yet I thought Daniel Larison made the most telling criticism of Palin's VP position:

"Practically everything that you, the average conservative, like about Sarah Palin is opposed and negated by what John McCain stands for and has represented for pretty much his entire career, but still conservatives are reacting deliriously to a speech whose ultimate purpose is to co-opt them into backing a presidential candidate whose policies on vital national questions are antithetical to everything they value. Does her small-town ethos impress you and inspire some identification with her? McCain embraces the policies promoting globalization and mass immigration that are gradually transforming your small towns beyond recognition. Does her hostility to Washington elites please you? McCain serves and always has served the interests of those elites, and his immigration legislation was just the most recent and egregious form of this. Like the undead creature it resembles, the GOP establishment will feed off of every bit of the energy, vivacity and authenticity that Palin possesses in its bid to keep conservatives serving their goals. Do not help the creature to feed on its victim."

Along comes Palin with "0" DC experience who evidently gave a good speech and with only a few days to know her, mind you, she's the greatest thing to ever step up to a Republican microphone.

The fact is she will be nothing more but a yes woman for McCain who will be able to offer "hockey mom" advice but nothing of value for running this country. Should McCain be incapacitated because of his age this country will be in real trouble.

    Once again;

Obama selected a running mate with the ability to assist him in cleaning up the Republican parties mess and putting this country back on track.

McCain selected for his running mate a side show.

Who is concerned about winning an election? McCain!

How sad to think that she believes she'll take the moral high ground by denying women the right to choose- and rather send them to jail and back-alley coat-hanger "doctors" for making such a choice.

I want a leader who will lead in fact, and by example. Let's compare the choices...
A man who has "thought for himself" by voting with Bush on almost everything, and been part of the establishment for his entire life. Who left his disabled wife for a woman he'd had an affair with before he left for duty, and a man who has been so stupid he's even offended his supporters, the Hiltons, by "comparing" their daughter to Obama to further his cause. Wow.

A woman who has shunned birth control for herself and her daughters, now having five children, and not telling her daughter that she will have the baby and marry the father. Her daughter will undoubtedly also receive a limited education, and one can only wonder how this marriage will work out. A woman who pursued a limited amount of education, and really propelled herself forward through beauty pageants and magazine covers. A woman who claims to have shaken up the framework of local government- but in reality earmarked billions of dollars for her own benefit. Talk about a poser.

Contrast that to a ticket with

Hillary supporters, I know sometimes it's hard to figure out where to turn, but Sarah Palin is NOT Hillary.

As a "glow in the dark feminist" I see no reason to vote for McCain. And touting his v.p. pick as an example of a successful woman, feminist or not, is just cotton candy.

Not only is she pro-life but she is for abstinence only in the schools, and that something for every nut science, creationism.

I am proud she had the right to make her own choices in this country. But suppose she had wanted to abort the last baby. Under her type of theocracy that choice would have been gone.

I would no more vote for her than I would have voted for Clinton because of her feminism. I vote for party platforms and principles.

Any feminist who votes for her is voting for Christian evangelical control of the country again. Just when we are getting their sticky fingers off our laws.

Women, don't vote against your own best interests, just because the Republicans have convinced you libs and Democrats are attacking her.

Sorry, but if she thinks she can be President of this country someday, she better toughen up and get used to the critisism. I don't care if she has a virgina or not. We are going to treat here just like every other radical NeoCon that wants to destroy everything that makes this country great for a profit for them and their rich, well connected friends!

Palin speech pulls in $8 million — for Obama
    Posted: 05:19 PM ET

(CNN) – Barack Obama's campaign says it has raised more than $8 million from over 130,000 donors following Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin's speech Wednesday night.

The campaign also says it is on track to raise $10 million before John McCain takes the podium at the Republican National Convention tonight.

After all, my little friend toting a big stick, the real Historic speech was just last night and the RNC is not over yet.

I expect a down to earth speech tonight with McCain connecting to the people.
He might not even have a teleprompter.
Could be wrong but I have not been wrong on any of my predictions.

Palins teleprompter was messing up last night yet she pulled it off, something Obama could never do.

    Doug, Ryan and Annie,

Earth to Doug and Ryan, feminist implies women's rights. That means that Sarah Palin has a right to be elected Vice President, not that she has no right to be called a feminist unless she bows the knee to the Liberal Gods. Feminism is about rights, not ideology, the same way the equal rights should mean that whether man or woman, black, white, red, brown or mixed you should have the same rights regardless of your ideology. The Gloria Steinems and Jesse Jacksons of the world want to marginalize women and minorities that do not agree with them. That is the most outrageous bigotry opeating in our world today. You three need to read Bridget's post at 9-4 12:44PM

    JMH,

The poblem with Obama's platform is that it is so far disconnected from his voting record. One would have to be a fool to think that Obama could establish the most liberal track record in the Senate, pick the number # liberal in the Senate and then expect them to be anything but the most liberal administration in US history. McCain and Palin both have a bi-partisan record and a record of bucking their own party. Those two facts will propel them past the their socialist/commie opponents.

    Anonymous,

You need to take your blinders off. Obama pretends to be above the fray while at the same time surrounding himself with Nazis like Wright, Ayers and Fleger. Compare their rhetoric to Palin's and you will have the real contrast. Palin's was obviously in the vein of a friendly roast, not a vicious personal attack.

    Observer,

A single DUI 22 years ago while single does not a problem make.
    http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/09/01/1318881.aspx

    Leftside,

Obama has no experience, which is why he picked Biden, who has about the same experience in the Senate as McCain, but McCain has the character molded in 6 years as a tortured POW. Palin actually has the only executive experience among the four and I would vote for her as president in a heart beat.

    King,

    Dream on.

    http://www.ballot-access.org/2008/08/27/democrats-republicans-miss-texas-deadline-to-certify-presidential-nominees/

    Tbone,

What I heard from several news sources is the Palin's teleprompter operator did not slow down enough during the audience applause. I saw one hitch, but she recovered nicely.

Palin's speech was meant to introduce her to the Republican party. The Republican party is now more jazzed than they have been since 1994. I think you are going to see real feminists flock to her, as well as most conservatives. If they get elected, they could be setting themselves up for a 12 to 16 year run, depending on how McCain fares. That is how strong the reaction is to her. It will be very interesting to watch for the Palin bounce.
