Is Obama's 'redistributive" interview the GOP's 'October Surprise?
An interview given by then-State Sen. and college professor Barack Obama in which the Democratic presidential candidate talks about the value of "redistribut[ing] the wealth"
is getting big play on conservative media and Internet sites.
Both Fox News
and the Drudge Report have featured the story in the lead position of their Web sites.
Politico's Ben Smith reports:
The context of the clip appears to be the civil rights movement, and the fairly commonplace observation (stated beginning with Martin Luther King) that the '60s movement succeeded in winning African-Americans legal rights but stopped short of lifting them out of poverty. But Obama's professorial talk about "redistributive change," while perhaps an accurate way to talk about an agenda of raising taxes on the rich, sure isn't the language he'd use today.
Obama legal advisor and Harvard law professor Cass Sunstein, said today that Obama's 2001 remarks on "redistributive change" -- pushed hard on the right today -- are being misinterpreted, and that he was actually articulating "conservative" legal principles, and that the then-law professor's "law-speak" was being misinterpreted.
Obama's remarks came in a long interview on civil rights and Constitutional law with two other law professors on the Chicago public radio station WBEZ in 2001. Sunstein argued that Obama is discussing redistribution in a relatively narrow legal context: The discussion in the 1970s of whether the Supreme Court would create the right to a social safety net -- to things like education and welfare. He also noted that in the interview, Obama appears to express support for the court's rejection of that line of argument, saying instead that the civil rights movement should aim for the same goals through legislative action.
"What the critics are missing is that the term 'redistribution' didn't man in the Constitutional context equalized wealth or anything like that. It meant some positive rights, most prominently the right to education, and also the right to a lawyer," Sunstein said. "What he's saying - this is the irony of it - he's basically taking the side of the conservatives then and now against the liberals."
The first mention of redistribution, which does not appear on the YouTube clip, comes when Obama discusses a 1973 Supreme Court ruling finding that there is no right to education.

No, The fact that Obama refuses to release his correct BC required by the Constitution to be eligible for President of the United States.
Why is Obama fighting like hell to prevent from having to provide proof of where he was born.
His grandmother in Kenya said she witnessed him being born in Kanya. She was there.
Here is a list of records Obama refuses to provide:
1. Occidental College records -- Not released
2. Columbia College records -- Not released
3. Columbia Thesis paper -- ' not available '
4. Harvard College records -- Not released
5. Selective Service Registration -- Not released
6. Medical records -- Not released
7. Illinois State Senate schedule -- ' not available '
8. Law practice client list -- Not released
9. Certified Copy of original Birth certificate -- Not released
10. Embossed, signed, paper Certification of Live Birth -- Not released
11. Harvard Law Review articles published -- None
12. University of Chicago scholarly articles -- None
13. Your Record of baptism-- Not released or ' not available '
14. Your Illinois State Senate records-- ' not available '
Why is it that Obama refuses to let anyone know his past?
I think we have a right to know.
From the very little that we do know, we found out he likes to associate with radicals.

The case was thrown out of the courts, because the judge said there wasn't enough evidence to suggest that Obama wasn't a citizen.
You're truly on the lunatic fringe if you still buy into the "Obama's not a citizen because he released his hawaii birth certificate" crap.
I mean, how would it be at all possible that through 12 years in the illinois legislature and 4 years in the US senate, that no one, FBI included, found out that he really wasn't a citizen?
Meanwhile, mclame was born in panama.
I think we need to investigate mcsame for not being a citizen. Who is john mclame? How can we know for sure?

Only true surprise I find about American presidential elections this year is a vast majority of Obama supporters are adamantly bent on rendering America a pseudo Marxist nation. This call for rendering America a socialist welfare nation by Obama and his supporters, this truly does surprise me.
Quite ironic an American Indian, like me, an American Indian who has every right to "hate" America, is fighting to defend our Spirit of America, fighting to defend our American ideals, fighting to defend our founding principles of Freedom and Democracy.
There is no need for Osama Bin Laden and his Islamic terrorists to attack our America; we are destroying our country from within by calling for a Socialist America.
I am certain Bin Laden is enjoying a laugh.
Appears there is a Free Lunch in life, appears half or more of Americans expect a Free Lunch paid for by hard working successful Americans.
Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! Give me all I want for free, I am an American! Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! I do not have to work for a living, I am an American!
Gimme my welfare check, Barack!
When I was born, my peoples, we Indians, were not granted American citizenship, were not granted a right to vote. We fought long and hard for citizenship and a right to vote. We won.
Today, Americans are fighting for welfare checks in their mailboxes.
I believe I will pack up my family, head back to our Indian lands, then lead a life of honest hard work, of independence and of pride.
Our family enjoys pride, we will never become welfare recipients; we always have and always will earn our lunch.

I suspect that the people posting here have never studied government fiscal policy. Taxes, fees, fines, royalties, proceeds from sale, and other revenue gathered by the government is used for things like roads, the military, salaries, government buildings, grants for research, grants for education, etc.
Some people receive direct benefits, but most people receive indirect benefits. Your corporation may receive a government contract, you may drive on an Interstate freeway, the chicken in your casserole may be inspected for disease, the FBI may find the bank robber where you had your savings, Johnnie next door may get a scholarship and go to college instead of joining a gang, the military may kill a terrorist who would like to invade America and kill you, the government may keep toxic goods from entering the country through commerce, the government may force a toxic polluter to clean up its mess, the government may pay insurance on your company's payroll deposit so it won't be lost if the bank goes belly up.
Health care is the area where things may change the most under the Dems. But, again, there may be indirect benefits that aren't apparent to the average whiner. Poor people may receive pre-natal care, thus decreasing the cost of infant disease and rate of infant mortality. Do you know that the USA, the richest country on God's good earth, is 26th in infant mortality? Some people would say that is a sin.

Thanks for the data on Surrick's findings. I think you may be drawing the wrong conclusion, however. If Berg did not have evidence to support his claims that Obama's elligibility to run for POTUS was in question, Judge Surrick would have ruled favorably on the DNC's earlier motion to dismiss the case. The reason Surrick did not find with Berg is that his justification for "injury" isn't sufficient. The bottom line is this: Mr. Obama has had a very interesting past, which leaves room for doubt about his elligibility, even in the minds of some of his most ardent followers. There is no legitimate reason for him not to produce the documents that would put this question to rest. So far, his fans have made this more difficult by posting the bogus document, perhaps with good intention, but resulting in even more speculation. The best thing at this point is for his supporters to call for him to produce the required documentation. I find that I cannot vote for him at this point without a full disclosure of the documents. This should not require a court order, it should be done because Barak has nothing to hide.

There are other agencies who have verified the authenticity of Obama's citizenship. Why should some WACKO have standing to demand its authenticity? What makes him so special?
If a member of the Federal Elections Commission was refused proof of citizenship, maybe there would be standing. It is amazing how some people think that any WACKO with a "what if?" sensation can drag anyone into court on a whim?

Damned fools are making and can only make a big deal of this because they have nothing else to talk about. Obama's position regarding the courts is the same as Justice Scalia's: the court should not be an advocate for any position and it must not be used to leverage change. If you want change (reverse Roe for example) change the law (in Congress). Obama goes one step further: If you want to change the law (easily) make it popular so that the people's representatives will respond to the expression and needs of their constituents. This is actually conservative thinking. Liberals have always argued differently: That the Courts ought to and should right wrongs when they see them (example Gore v. Bush). The Supreme Court rejected that. So, Obama is right and the loud mouths are wrong.

However for some reason Obama would rather send in a team of Attorneys to fight against producing his BC...why?
If he had nothing to hide, why would he fight against it. It makes no sense at all.
I don't think he can prove he his a Citizen.
I think his Dad changed his Citizenship when he enrolled him into public School in Indonesia, a requirement to attend. He never reverted it back to a US citizenship.
Another scenario is that Obama was born in Kenya then flown to Hawaii which would disqualify him.
TWO different Hospitals in Hawaii claim that he born in them. How can he be born in two different Hospitals?
There is a lot of fishy reasons to speculate about Obama but the main one is, why does he continue to refuse to present it and lay all this speculation to rest?

I still need to look it up, but I'm pretty sure the constitution says nothing about who has the right to police eligibility to run for president ...but DOES state that all responsibilities/rights not expressed in the constitution fall to the states and to the people of the United States. Yes, the nationalist would say, whites are responsible for your sorry state, not any inherent flaws in you. The claim that there is no money involved in S-2433 is partially true in that it never directly mentions the money needed to fund this act. However, when one reads the U.N. It also ties the U.S. to all treaties governing laws, firearms, biological diversity, energy, our parental rights and on and on. May God help us!
