Drum roll: announcing the start of Election 2010

That line with E-tickets is jostling for front seats on the Who Wants to be Governor Express.

Hello there, Rep. Tom Tancredo. What's up Troy Eid? How you doing, Tom Wiens?

The man with the job was perceived in some quarters - mainly Republican quarters - to have had a mixed night on Tuesday.

Ed Sealover reports Ritter backed Amendment 58, which would have eliminated a tax loophole on the oil and gas industry but went down to defeat. And close friend Rep. Bernie Buescher lost a re-election bid in which Republicans tied Buescher to the governor.

Ritter said during a Wednesday news conference that he did not feel the results were an omen of declining popularity for a man who had more than a 70 percent approval rating one year ago. Selling a tax-change policy in an economic downturn is always tough, and Buescher's defeat is a reminder of the registration advantage that Republicans have in Mesa County, he said.

"I don't see this as something that is somehow a turning point for us in this administration," Ritter said.

But Republicans said the two events - combined with a recent defeat of a 2007 Ritter property tax-rate freeze in court and polls showing a slipping approval rating - add up to trouble. Laura Bradford, the Republican who defeated Buescher, went as far as to say the race was more about Ritter than her actual opponent.

"As titular leader of the Democratic Party in the state, Bill Ritter had a great night because Democrats had a great night," political analyst Eric Sondermann said. "As governor of the state, it was more of a mixed bag."

Ritter got behind the proposal that would become Amendment 58 after championing the need to eliminate the tax loophole and redirect revenues toward college scholarships earlier this year. The oil and gas industry threw heavy financial resources into defeating the measure and it failed.

I would love to see TT run.
I don't think TaxRitter would stand a chance now that it is widely known he was handing out agriculture tresspass charges to illegals so they could avoid deportation and TT's tough stance on illegal immigration.
Plus we now know that he is nothing but a tax and spend Liberal.

    completely ignorant, cruton.

and i mean ignorant with a capital I.

ritter will win in a landslide.

furthermore, ritter treated crimes committed by illegal immigrants just the same as large urban area DA's did across the country...democrats and republicans alike.

Uhm, Sascrotch - Not sure what market you are referring to but the DJIA is up 150-odd points right now. Besides, the market has been down for the better part of months now, not just since the election. You been in rehab or something?

Obama isn't even in power yet and they are blaming him for the meltdown. Party of personal responsibility my backside. The GOP blames everything bad on everyone else and takes credit they don't deserve. I am so glad we will have a president that will walk away from the failed policy of "trickle down" economics. Of course the economy will be running healthy and people will become complacent and the GOP will rob us AGAIN. They have robbed us three times during my life and every time we forget it for a second and buy their garbage we get robbed again.

    Mark,

The election is over so can they reinstate my ability to blog? I mean the GOP lost so bad I would think that silencing dissent is pretty worthless. Is the RMN so worried about a Democrat with a mouth that they would give up what little integrity they have to try and silence me? I still challenge your staff to show me what I said that was against your policy. I may have been harsh on some of the GOP politicians but I only defended myself against personal attacks. Show me one statement where I violated the agreement.

Way to post an "issue" @1:06. Here is a new word for you "hypocrite". Look it up.

I guess the only bigotry you approve of is your own. No need to be an opinion bigot.
