President-elect Obama's first news conference: move quickly on economy

The economy is a mess and needs urgent action but Barack Obama said in his first news conference as President-elect he would defer to President Bush and his economic team for the moment.
But, he said, "immediately after I become president I will confront this economic crisis head-on by taking all necessary steps to ease the credit crisis, help hardworking families, and restore growth and prosperity.""I'm confident a new president can have an enormous impact," he added.
The president-elect spoke after he and Vice President-elect Joe Biden met privately with economic experts to discuss ways to stabilize the troubled economy.
More evidence of a recession came Friday when the government reported that the unemployment rate had jumped from 6.1 percent in September to 6.5 percent in October. Despite dour third-quarter reports from Ford and General Motors, stocks rose some after two days of heavy losses.
Obama's transition to power and early days in office, if not the entire first year of his presidency, almost certainly will be devoted to finding ways to remedy dismal economic conditions. The economy was the top concern of voters demanding a new direction as they ushered into office the Democrat who promised change after eight years of Bush's policies.

Shocking New Revelation
This is new information everyone should know. You will find verification links at the end of this shocking article.
This has been flying under the radar. Read the MSNBC article and check the truthorfiction.Com site. The TruthOrFiction version is shown below. This event is factual. I have an increased respect for President Bush. He has taken the heat of being called a liar and a war monger for 5 years while he kept his silence to protect the people of the world. This is truly a display of selfless honor.
On July 5, 2008, the Associated Press (AP) released a story titled: Secret U.S. Mission hauls uranium from Iraq .
The opening paragraph is as follows:
The last major remnant of Saddam Hussein's nuclear program a huge stockpile of concentrated natural uranium reached a Canadian port Saturday to complete a secret U.S. Operation that included a two week airlift from Baghdad and a ship voyage crossing two oceans.
See anything wrong with this picture? We have been hearing from the far-left for more than five years how, Bush lied. Somehow, that slogan loses its credibility now that 550 metric tons of Saddam's yellowcake, used for nuclear weapon enrichment, has been discovered and shipped to Canada for its new use as nuclear energy.
It appears that American troops found the 550 metric tons of uranium in 2003 after invading Iraq . They had to sit on this information and the uranium itself, for fear of terrorists attempting to steal it. It was guarded and kept safe by our military in a 23,000-acre site with large sand beams surrounding the site.
This is vindication for the Bush administration, having been attacked mercilessly by the liberal media and the far-left pundits on the blogosphere. Now that it is proven that President Bush did not lie about Saddam's nuclear ambitions, one would think the mainstream media would report the story. Once the AP released the story, the mainstream media should have picked it up and broadcast it worldwide.
This never happened, due in large part I believe, to the fact that the mainstream media would have to admit they were wrong about Bush's war motives all along. Thankfully, the AP got it right when it said,
The removal of 550 metric tons of yellowcake the seed material for higher-grade nuclear enrichment was a significant step toward closing the books on Saddam's nuclear legacy.
Closing the book on Saddam's nuclear legacy. Did Saddam have a nuclear legacy after all? I thought Bush lied. As it turns out, the people who lied were Joe Wilson and his wife.
Valerie Plame engaged in a clear case of nepotism and convinced the CIA to send her husband on a fact finding mission in February 2002, seeking to determine if Saddam Hussein attempted to buy yellowcake from Niger . The CIA and British intelligence believed Saddam contacted Niger for that purpose but needed proof.
During his trip to Niger , Wilson actually interviewed the former prime minister of Niger , Ibrahim Assane Mayaki. Mayaki told Wilson that in June of 1999, an Iraqi delegation expressed interest in 'expanding commercial relations' for the purposes of purchasing yellowcake.
Wilson chose to overlook Mayaki's remarks and reported to the CIA that there was no evidence of Hussein wanting to purchase yellowcake from Niger .
However, with British intelligence insisting the claim was true, President Bush used that same claim in his State of the Union address in January of 2003.
Outraged by Bush's insistence that the claim was true, Wilson wrote an op-Ed in the New York Times in the summer of 2003 slamming Bush.
Wilson did this in spite of the fact that Mayaki said Saddam did try to buy the yellowcake from Niger . The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence disagreed with Wilson and supported Mayaki's claim. This meant nothing to Wilson who was opposed to the Iraq war and thus had ulterior motives in covering up the prime minister's statements.
It was a simple tactic really. If the far-left and their friends in the media could prove Bush lied about Hussein wanting to purchase yellowcake from Niger , it would undermine President Bush's credibility and give them more cause for asking what other lies he may have told.
Yet, the real lie came from Wilson, who interpreted his own meaning from the prime minister's statements and concluded all by himself that the claim of Saddam attempting to purchase yellowcake was 'unequivocally wrong.' Curiously, the CIA sat on this information and did not inform the CIA Director, who sided with Bush on the yellowcake claim. This was made public in a bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report in July 2004.
Valerie Plame also engaged in her own lie campaign by spreading the notion that the Bush administration outed her as a CIA agent. Never mind that it was Richard Armitage -- no friend of the Bush administration -- who leaked Plame's identity to the press. Never mind that Plame had not been in the field as a CIA agent in some six years.
The truth is, due to their opposition to the war, Joe Wilson, Valerie Plame, the mainstream media and their left-wing friends on the blogosphere engaged in a propaganda campaign to undermine the Bush administration. Now that Saddam's uranium has been made public and is no longer a threat to the world, do you think these aforementioned parties will apologize and admit they were wrong? Don't count on it. The rest of the American people should hear the truth about Saddam's uranium. It is up to you and me to inform them every chance we get.
As far as the anti-war crowd is concerned, the next time they say that, 'Bush lied,' we should tell them to, 'Have the yellowcake and eat it too.'

The poor aren't poor because the rich are rich. They're usually poor for their own reasons: family breakdown, low skills, destructive personal habits and plain bad luck.
And making the rich poorer doesn't make everyone else richer. Scapegoating and punishing all of the rich won't do us any good if the resulting taxes dull investment and risk-taking, discouraging economic growth that benefits everyone.

If they are on different servers like I suspect, the settings could be set up differently...make sense??
Have you ever had to sign into a secured web site where the letters were scrambled in different shapes and forms and then you had to type them in a box so the server on the other end recognizes you as a real person?

How Poo Are America's Poo?
The average "poo" person, as defined by the government, has a living standard far higher than the public imagines. The following are facts about persons defined as "poo" by the Census Bureau, taken from various government reports:
1. 43% percent of all poo households actually own their own homes. The average home owned by persons classified as poor by the Census Bureau is a three-bedroom house with one-and-a-half baths, a garage, and a porch or patio.
2. 80% of poo households have air conditioning. By contrast, in 1970, only 36% of the entire U.S. population enjoyed air conditioning.
3. The typical poo American has more living space than the average individual living in Paris, London, Vienna, Athens, and other cities throughout Europe. (These comparisons are to the averagecitizens in foreign countries, not to those classified as poor.)
4. Nearly three-quarters of poo households own a car; 31% own two or more cars.
5. 97% of poo households have a color television; over half own two or more color televisions.
6. 78% percent have a VCR or DVD player; 62% have cable or satellite TV reception.
7. 89% own microwave ovens, more than half have a stereo, and a more than a third have an automatic dishwasher.
Overall, the typical American defined as poo by the government has a car, air conditioning, a refrigerator, a stove, a clothes washer and dryer, and a microwave. He has two color televisions, cable or satellite TV reception, a VCR or DVD player, and a stereo. He is able to obtain medical care. His home is in good repair and is not overcrowded. By his own report, his family is not hungry, and he had sufficient funds in the past year to meet his family's essential needs. While this individual's life is not opulent, it is equally far from the popular images of dire poverty conveyed by the press, liberal activists, and politicians. No "Tobacco Road" or "Grapes of Wrath" playin' on their 120 inch plasmas.

If they consider anything I said a personal attack I would wonder if they have EVER read you. I think the worst thing I ever said was a genuine concern that Gloria P needed to see a psychiatrist. Personal attacks on John McCain are probably the ones that set the RMN off. I do think McCain lost all integrity when he gave into Bush on torture and I will never change my opinion on that. The other stuff I said about McCain was factual and I will just let it rest since he will be a better ally than enemy in the senate and will go back to being the borderline Democrat he has been in the past.
On other subjects what do you hope they change in the GOP and who do you want to lead it? I hope they go back to the party of fiscal conservatives and leave us alone social values. The radical swing of the GOP to the Religious Right Wing has devalued a party with a proud history to a party defeated by historical margins. I think Schwarzenegger would be a good person for the GOP to follow. His quote he used today that the road is in the middle and the far right and the far left are in the gutter is accurate and I think he is a good face and moderate enough to be a good leader for the GOP.

Sure you did, I really believe you.
The reason Obama won was because he was not vetted and was protected by the media.
He ran against Bush and repeated how horrible America has become under his rule so often that people bought into it.
He was never asked any tough questions and when he was he skirted around it and got away with it.
I am not going to say he didn't run a flawless campaign because he did and he had thousands fo ground soldiers, record amount of money, which some came from overseas and radical groups, he was protected by the media.
Basically everything possible was in his favor yet he still only got 52% of the vote so if you think he just won hands down you are an idiot.
He promised the world to many voters so lets just see how he plans to cover everyone's health care and cut the taxes to 95% of Americans.
If he can do this in a weak economy JW, I will become a believer but I don't think he can deliver on most of his promises.
He was just saying anything and everything to target votes.

How is it possible for him to be sworn in to protect the Constitution when he is avoiding it's requirements?
Why won't he produce it and put an end to all the fuss?
Why did he seal all his academic and medical records?
You see if the press would have done it's job your gal Hillary would be President.
We all know she has been vetted.
I still have no idea who Obama really is if he isn't a radical.
Everything I know about him reeks of radicalism.
Those on the left refuse to even want to know who is really is.

Shaggy,
I would start with Gary Condit and work my way through Palin after they lost. They said she didn't know Africa was a continent. I would at least assume she knew that. Gary Condit was probably the worst example of their defamation. They openly accused him of murder for months. It was sad they never retracted that when Levy's body was found and the suspect was caught after assaulting other ladies in the same area.
You apparently still have a lot of pouting to do. Go buy a big box of Kleenex. That could help the economy too.

So, you admit you are a liar, and will not support Obama as you said you would.
Since you said a good American would step up and support the president, you also admit you are not a good American.
I accept your appology.
BTW,
"All of American and American values lost."
WTF are these "American Values"? I'm an American. Youre an American. Are our values the same (NOOOOOO!!!!)? What about all the different people in this country? Are all THEIR values the same? No.
This country is the most diverse country on earth. We have people from literally EVERYWHERE. Therefore, the only "American" values that exist are INDIVIDUAL values, which change from American to American. As such, we have the constitution, which protects individual freedoms so some Nazi like Shaggy doesnt come along and say "Hey! All you Americans! You all have the same values as I do now...because we just made it law!"
Damn idiots an their "American Values". Freedom you f*&kwit! That is America's VALUE. The freedom for every individual American to have their OWN values, and tell you to pound sand if you dont like it!

All Obama has to do is get out of Iraq and cut military spending by 25% (which we would still STILL outspend the whole world combined... sorry we don't need anymore nuke-subs and such) and we will be on the road to economic responsiblity.
Then go back to the Clinton tax codes and close all corporate loopholes (offshoring, tax breaks for companies that outsource, etc).
It will take alot of other sacrifies/heavy lifting, but certainly not undo-able! Thank God we have some adults running the show now!
As for the Republicans, sorry, they had their chance and BLEW IT!!! The MAJORITY of the American people have spoken and have sidelined the radical right for the next few years at least. I'm sure all we will get are anti-American nonsense from the NeoCons and a constant attack from all their propaganda outlets, but who cares... they are effectivly nothing more than the neighbor's yapping poddle right now - annoying but harmless! haha...
Well either be constructive and help us fix the USA or get the F*CK out of the way!!! You opinions should be valued, but your attacks and lies will just further show you have no credibility.
If the NeoCons truly knew what was best for America, we wouldn't be in this mess! This is the reason they hated Clinton (dispite the largest period of peace and prosperity)... because he was succsessful for ALL Americans, not just the super-rich & powerful (who are really where the GOP's loyalty is... not with America or average Americans)!!!
NeoCons like shagggy, your failed policies are over... deal with it! Love it or Leave It! Isn't that what you all told us?

Well it looks like the definition of REAL Americans isn't the same as Sarah Palin's definition... G. W. Bush is leaving office as the MOST disliked President EVER!!! I guess 76% of America are anti-American commies? haha...

76% of Americans DISAPPROVE of G. W. Bush's job performance... 76%!!! That is 10% worse than Nixon AFTER Watergate! That is the worst mark EVER in American history.
Seems to me, all Obama has to do is the exact opposite of G. W. Bush and we should be OK! I mean, after all, if W's & the GOP's ideas actually worked (and all we have to do is look at the results to see they don't) I don't think he would leave being so dispised!
Now start the NeoCon whinning and finger-pointing... We know there will be no responsiblity taken among the NeoCon cult!

Obama is the liar.
He is changing his promises as we speak.
His web site that told his plans and what he was campaigning on is being erased on a daily basis.
He even admitted to lying about his promise to except public funding.
He refers to his tax plan in the past tense now.
Why is that?
Because he is covering his deliberate lies he promised to get votes!
He was saying, and this is not verbatim, to George Stenopolis, that what his tax plan would have done was provide a tax break to 95% of the people.
I am so glad I don't have to worry about my mortgage or paying to put gas in my tanks or paying for health care anymore.
Because Obama and big brother are going to take care of me now.
I will even get a tax break and a check that Obamarobinhood will rob from those mean old rich people who create jobs and keep the economy flowing.
Life is good, spread the wealth, feel patriotic to pay for Socialism.

STFU Shaggy. You have no problem with illegal wiretapping or the MCA of 06. If you believe in the constitution (which would require actually learning about it first) you cannot support these things. They are TOTALLY unconstitutional.

First, I wouldnt either, provided they arent in America. If they are, then the authorities need a warrant. That is the constitution Shaggy. It doesnt change just because youre a pansy.
The main problem is that they arent just listening to terrorist Shaggy. They are listening to lots of people, even our soldiers talking to their wives. They are doing this without a warrant. That is unconstitutional.
So I guess the bottom line is that when you said "I hope I am not the only one who believes in our Constitution, but if so then so be it." what you really meant was "I hope I am not the only one who believes in the constitution when it suits me, but if so then so be it."
As for the rest, again, congrats on getting behind him like you said you would, LIAR.
