What would Jesus do - about the stimulus?

A conservative group is attacking the administration's economic stimulus plan by invoking Jesus and the three wise men.

The American Issues Project, which briefly aired a TV spot in last year's presidential race, will go up on Friday with a TV spot that marks the dollars spent with the passage of time.

"Suppose you spent $1 million every single day starting from the day Jesus was born -- and kept spending through today," says the announcer as an image of the three wise men flashes on the screen. "A million dollars a day for more than 2,000 years. You would still have spent less money than Congress just did."

According to Chris LaCivita, an AIP consultant, they are spending just under $1 million on the ad, which will be aired on national cable.

The 60-second ad also singles out an eyebrow-raising statement made by Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on the Senate floor.

"Let me say this, to all of the chattering class that so much focuses on those little tiny, yes, porky amendments -- the American people really don't care," Schumer said.

Then, echoing one of Obama's signature campaign slogans, the announcer asks: "Is this change you can believe in?"

Fair? Should Jesus be used in partisan political ads?

Jesus would probably continue to "short" the Obama stimulus; behaving no differently than the rest of the global investment community. Jesus would be "long" gold. HE would have a very low opinion of some clueless empty-suit and socialist dividing America into "victim" versus "villian" camps.

Jesus would be very suspect of Obama having arrived on the investment scene just when Madoff and Stanford have been exposed. HE might believe that Obama is just yet another phony fraud just like those guys who stole America's trust.

Jesus would then arrange for a Republican landslide in 2010 and thereby rescue and save the remaing unspent 60% of the stimulus. After all, Jesus is our savior and saving $600 billion counts too.

Jesus wouldn't go to Squat's house for a bar-b-q, that is for sure, because Squat would complain about the lepers, poor people, and other suspect characters who would show up with the savior.

But Jesus might feel compelled to cure Squat's mental infirmity, much like he did by making the crippled walk and raising Lazarus from the dead.

Jesus might also suggest that the AIP take the log out of its eye before it tries to take a spec out of our President's eye. After all, it was the deadbeat and spendthrift Republicans who cut taxes during wartime that caused the major part of our credit crisis. The Bushistas apparently thought they were smarter than the giants who preceded them. Of course, any first year psychology student would understand why a pygmy would try to project a false image of a giant.

But it is hard to understand why Jesus would take a position about the use of money. He pretty much said that money was irrelevant where he was going, and should be to us if we want to follow.

    HolierThanThou writes:

The conservative economic "stimulus" consists of three primary movements of money:

    1. Tax cuts for the wealthy that are paid for by deficit spending, increases in local fees, and negligence to domestic needs such as transportation infrastructure, healthcare, and other services.

    2. War that fills the coffers and foreign bank accounts of conservative war profiteers and professional murderers such as Blackwater (now Xe) and Halliburton (Cheney's outfit).

    3. Executive bonuses paid for with the wages and salaries of working Americans whose jobs have been stolen and sent offshore.

The results of the conservative economic "stimulus" are plain to see as rising unemployment, the avalanche of foreclosures, and the nationalization of bank failures.

The good news is that the money has not disappeared entirely. Your money has gone somewhere. It's in the bank accounts of those who profit from the blood and misery wrought by conservatism.

The conservatives are now on their knees praying for the furtherance of failure. They're wasting their ill-gotten gains on spreading lies in the media. Conservatives are fools praying for the destruction of America. They're no different than the slave-traders of the antebellum South, inciting an insurrection that would ultimately cause millions of killings, and maimings, and the destruction of their own homes. Those slave-traders founded the conservatism of modern times and it hasn't changed even one iota at its core.

President Obama's economic stimulus package is only the first step in the remedy. This package will create local jobs that cannot be offshored. It's a beginning to energy independence that will finally give America the power and leverage to bring peace to the Israelis and their neighbors.

A junkie is not the boss of his drug pusher. He must come clean if he wants his freedom back. For American to thrive, we must also come clean. We must put our own people to work. Create value for ourselves and posterity. President Obama's stimulus plan only looks like deficit spending.

The second part must involve accountability, which means we tax those who made the mess in the first place. This is why the conservatives are so afraid of the solution even though they have nothing new to offer. Wealthy conservatives have stolen a huge amount of money from America. Some of them have already stashed it in places like Dubai, the new HQ of Halliburton. They're fleeing the country with our tax dollars but there is no guarantee that they will get very far. After all, conservatives have no friends in the world except the ones they buy.
