What's Colorado going to get out of the stimulus package?
Tax cuts and help on tuition bills will flow to Colorado when the state gets is share of federal stimulus money, reports Lynn Bartels.
The money also will be used to create jobs, help the unemployed and continue Colorado's efforts in being an energy leader. An earlier House-passed version of the stimulus package put Colorado's share at $2.9 billion, but the final amount is expected to be significantly less.
"The depth of the economic crisis demands bold action," Gov. Bill Ritter said in a statement. "I'm confident Coloradans will rise to the challenge and seize the opportunities presented in the recovery package."
All the details aren't available, but according to Ritter and the White House the money will be used to:
* Give tax cuts of up to $800 to 1,870,000 Colorado workers, "designed to pay out immediately into workers' paychecks."
* Create or save 59,000 jobs over the next two years, from clean energy to health care.
* Help make college more affordable by issuing a tax credit for 36,000 families.
* Modernize at least 99 Colorado schools.
* Offer an additional $100 per month in unemployment insurance benefits to 173,000 Colorado workers who have lost their jobs and extend unemployment benefits to an additional 36,000 laid-off workers.
Think Colorado is getting enough?

It is irresponsible.
I though lying Barry said every bill would be put up on the internet for everyone to view for at least 72 hours before they vote.
What happened to the transparency.
Anyways, if the Senate passes it with the three traitors help it will have the Democrats pig prints all over it.

First I have to thank the Rocky for an honest headline about the stimulus bill. "Democrats MUSCLE stimulus bill through Congress". So much for another Barry promise, bring the country together.
What will Colorado get out of this bill. More welfare recipients, higher crime, higher costs for college, higher energy costs, higher food costs, ect. The Obama administration and the dems in Congress have saddled a entire generation of young Americans, some who are working to become rich, with a sixty-year payment. This bill when said and done will balloon to over 3 trillion dollars. In a way this is a form of sweet justice, those that will be paying for this pork voted for Obama in droves.
Dems like a m 760 are still obsessed with tax cuts. Yet a m has NO problem with tax debts. This tells me a m is in that 50% rage of Americans who DON’T pay taxes. These are people show no fiscal responsibility and it’s always give’me,give’me,give’me on someone else dime.
56% opposed this bill according to Rassmussen. That’s a higher percentage then Obama got. A m thinks the dems will gain sets, think again. When the promises of this bill isn’t met, the dems will come up with a please Mr President cover our a--es stimulus bill next year. But thanks to Al Gore’s invention, the internet and talk radio. Americans are going to be reminded of the irresponsible spending of this congress and this administration from now to the election next year.

The spending bill is bad for taxpayers, good for Democratic power mongers, lobbyists (mostly for Democratic causes), and those living off the government. Anyone who's examined the results of government spending on stimulating the economy knows that it doesn't work. And this kind of spending isn't the type that stimulates the taxpayers, it stimulates the moochers to mooch more. It's plain that if you subsidize something (moochers) you'll get more of it, and if you tax something (productive citizens) you'll get less of that.
The Deomcrats causes this mess by causing the housing bubble with the Community Reinvestment Act, and blocking the Republicans from reining in Fannie/Freddie. FannieMae and FreddieMac were the ones who peddled the mortgage backed securities that causes all the financial institutions to become insolvent. And Bush wasn't smart enough to insist that the government not back these securities.
This approach is likely to turn the recession into a depression, just like for Hoover/Roosevelt who tried spending their way out of the situation. So that's what Colorado will get along with everyone else.
I fear for our country. It doesn't matter much what happens, as we've now more moochers voting than we have taxpayers.

Mark to market is root of issue? writes:
http://economistsview.typepad.com/economistsview/2008/10/should-mark-to.html
This is a great piece of reading. congress is looking at suspending mark to market accounting of these toxic assets.
"In a nutshell, fair value accounting requires corporations to value their assets according to the current market price. This is great for financial institutions when markets are booming -- they can book all kinds of profits without ever having to actually sell anything. But it is dismal when markets crash, and toxic, risky assets suddenly get priced by the market at rock-bottom levels."
"If the price were marked to fundamentals instead, then the value of the asset wouldn't follow the market up, and that would have a stabilizing effect relative to the mark-to-market approach"
The just released draft of the Senate bailout bill, a 451-page monstrosity, includes a provision expressly giving the SEC authority to suspend mark-to-market accounting.
some are saying this is what is needed to create a market for these toxic assets.

Most of us were not against a stimulus plan to create jobs, we are just against all the pet projects the Democrats threw in that have nothing to do with creating jobs but rather for their own re-elections.
Thats reeks of putting themselves ahead of what is good for America.
That is both disgusting and very disturbing.
Including the three Republicans who voted for this porkulus bill for the sole purpose of getting re-elected.

"
John Ryding, chief economist of RDQ Economics, is a wide-eyed optimist because he believes the U.S. economy will experience positive growth in the second-half of 2009 and the unemployment rate will peak at 9% in 2010, not reach the low-to-mid teens as many others forecast.
Because the government stepped into rescue the financial system, however clumsily, Ryding believes the risk of the worst economic outcome are significantly lower than they were in September-October"
"The economy sure isn't good, but the risk of a 1930's -style Depression are far lower vs. during the heart of the financial crisis in September-October, says, John Ryding, chief economist of RDQ Economist.
While far from perfect, various and sundry efforts by the Federal Reserve, Treasury and other global policymakers to inject capital into banks and guarantee deposits prevented the economy from falling off a Mt. Everest-sized cliff, Ryding says"

Very scary for America and Capitalism as we know it whether you were trying to be facetious or not.
The problem with coming out of this recession vs the great depression is we no longer have the factories to put people back to work.
Under Barrys plan the Government will just fabricate jobs by using our kids and grandkids money for their pet projects.
I cannot believe the American people are not up in arms over this but then again most Americans have been proven to be stupid, look who they voted for!
It has been proven over and over that it simply does not work over time. Then the Democrats threw everything including the kitchen sink in this porkulus bill.

How is spending all this money and going deeper into debt going to solve our problem; we spend too much and are all too willing to go into debt. This is what afflicts the economy. It has for decades. I could've lived with a reasonable package devoted to infrastructure. But instead, Obama let the most irresponsible Congress ever write this bill and load it with pork. He willingly hitched his shooting star to the limping prarie wagon of the most unpopular Congress ever. Charles Schumer's comment that Americans don't care about pork exemplifies the arrogance that haunts our capitol. The problem for Obama is this: he is going to ask the people for a Son of Stimulus, another bank bailout, another one for Detroit and a housing program. The American people will have a very bad case of bailout fatigue when they go to the polls. I heard about a mortgasge holiday for a year on tv. Makes more sense than this pile of refuse.
