No Sharpe criticism in win over K.C.
Wednesday, September 28 at 12:01 AM

Former Denver Broncos tight end-turned-television commentator Shannon Sharpe was doing his job last year when he publicly criticized former teammate Jake Plummer.
sharpie1.jpgPlummer did his job on Monday, completing 13 of 18 passes for 156 yards, one touchdown and no turnovers in Denver’s 30-10 win over Kansas City. On Tuesday Sharpe said he did speak to Plummer in the locker room after the game.

"I basically said, 'If you take care of the football, (the Broncos) will win,'" said Sharpe, who is a studio analyst for CBS' NFL Today show. "He knows that. Nobody knows that more than Jake."

Sharpe said he could sense the Broncos were primed and ready for the Chiefs while in Denver’s locker room before the opening kickoff. "It almost felt like a playoff-type atmosphere because no one was talking," Sharpe said. "You could tell it was a big game for the Broncos.

"You could see that the Broncos had something to play for, really, a meaningful game. I don't know if there's ever been a more meaningful game this early in the season for the Broncos as it was (Monday) night."

NOTEWORTHY

› Former Kroenke Sports executive Don Elliman played in "Tee for 2" charity golf tournament benefitting the Chilren's Tumor Foundation and Saathoff Foundation on Monday at Fox Hills Country Club in Longmont. On the 17th hole -- the designated "closest to the pin" hole -- Elliman scored a hole-in-one, using a six-iron from 170 yards. Teammates Dave Kohlquist, Ben Fredregill and Greg Mastriano witnessed Elliman's ace.

First, Denver's defense looks spectacular. Constant pressure on the quarterback, and tight coverage on receivers downfield. I love it. Second. There was a big uproar when Plummer received Sharpe criticism. Why, I'll never understand. All he did was tell it like it is, Plummer's mistakes are costly and he should not be making that many this far into his career. Unfortunately, this K.C. game will be THE highlight of the season. We got a quick jump on K.C. and convinced them they could not win right out of the gate. The Broncos are a decent, competitive team, that will have a respectable season, but nothing more. The running game will be mostly unsuccessful this season, I guarantee it. And when it comes to the play-offs, if Denver get's in, no matter who we play, the opposing defense will easily confuse Jake, he will throw interceptions, and we will get stomped again. I guarantee it. Plummer makes the same mistakes again and again and has already shown he has not improved. With a running game that is predictable and stoppable, we will be one and done again.

The Broncos looked great, and the defense seems to becoming together. But this is the "What have you done lately league," and they need to keep it up each and every week.

No one is a bigger fan that me - especially as I live in the Dallas area (I have 2 favorite teams - Denver and whoever plays the Cowboys). I really want to see the Bronco defense dominate week to week, and the offense just get better and better.
