Houston may have problem: no 'Melo
If the NBA's All-Star break were to start today, Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony would be ranked among the league's top 10 scorers. Still, some doubt remains whether he will make the Western Conference All-Star team.
An All-Star Game appearance in Houston should be a given for 'Melo. Going into Wednesday's games, only three players in the Western Conference had a higher scoring average than Anthony's 25.1 points per game -- Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant (34.1), Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki (26.0) and Houston's Tracy McGrady (25.2).
Anthony, who also is averaging six rebounds and three assists while shooting 46 percent from the field, has scored 40 or more points in four of the Nuggets' past 17 games. The franchise record for most 40-point games in season is eight, set by Hall of Famer Alex English during the 1985-86 season.
English also holds the Nuggets' record for most 40-point games in a career with 34, followed by fellow Hall of Famer David Thompson (17), current Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe (10) and Michael Adams (six). Anthony has five career 40-point games.
I hope now
