On this date, the Denver Broncos beat the Cleveland Browns 38-33 in the AFC Championship game played at Mile High Stadium. The Broncos led 28-10 in the third quarter before the Browns rallied to the tie the score 31-31. Trailing 38-31, the Browns appeared to be on the verge of scoring the tying touchdown. Running back Earnest Byner fumbled at Denver's 2-yard line, and the Broncos recovered.
