On this date, Denver boxer Ron Lyle suffered a fifth-round knockout at the hands of George Foreman in Las Vegas. It was Foreman's first fight since losing the world heavyweight championship to Muhammad Ali in 1974. To his credit, Lyle knocked down Foreman twice in the fourth round before being stopped in the fifth.
