On this date in baseball history, former Boston Red Sox outfielder Tony Conigliaro dies at age 45 from pneumonia and kidney failure. In 1967 "Tony C." became the youngest player in American League history to reach 100 home runs. In the same season, he nearly was blinded by a pitch in his left cheekbone below the eye socket. He returned to play baseball in 1969.
