Buffaloes in no position for a letdown

Tuesday, February 7 at 12:05 AM

Do not let the 15-4 start sway you into believing the University of Colorado men's basketball team is a lock for the NCAA tournament. The Buffaloes need to finish strong to impress those who are in charge of putting together the field for March Madness.

CU has eight games remaining before the Big 12 tournament next month in Dallas. Four of the games will be played on the road, starting with Texas A&M on Wednesday. The four games at Coors Events Center are against Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Missouri and Iowa State.

The belief here is that it might take five more wins from the remaining eight games -- plus at least one win in the conference tournament -- to seal the Buffs' NCAA tournament bid invitation.

In the latest RPI (Rating Percentage Index), which is used in the process of selecting at-large teams for the tournament, CU ranks No. 48 (.5815). The University of Texas is the only team CU has played this season that currently is ranked among the RPI's top 50.

Air Force (16-4) is 46th with a .5832 RPI rating.
