Second time around better or worse?
Media and fans often talk about the so-called sophomore jinx in sports.
Question is, do players really believe in it?
"I guess I've heard about it, but I don't really know what it means," Colorado Rockies third baseman Garrett Atkins said. "I kind of look at (Matt) Holliday and what he did last year. That wasn't too much of a sophomore jinx -- hitting seventh in the National League."
Atkins finished the 2005 season with 13 home runs, 89 runs batted in and a .287 batting average. He labeled his rookie season as "average." Atkins' teammate, shortstop Clint Barmes will hear talk of the sophomore jinx too. Barmes batted .289 in an injury-shortened rookie season
"I'm excited about starting a new year and hopefully staying healthy," Barmes said. "Hopefully I can stay healthy for a full season, do what I need to do and play my role."

Heat is on . . . Rockies relievers
The bullpen accounted for 37 saves in 2005 -- third lowest among National League teams.
I heard that
"I think he'll pass (strong>Babe) Ruth this year. Hank (Aaron), he's not going to get this year because they're not going to pitch to him that much." -- Hall of Famer Willie Mays, accessing the chances of San Francisco Giants star outfielder Barry Bonds becoming baseball's home run king.
