Nuggets caught up in the 'Madness'

Friday, March 17 at 12:05 AM

Never mind the NCAA men's basketball tournament. March has become the favorite month for the surging Denver Nuggets.

The Nuggets have gone 7-2 this month, improving their record to 37-29 while tightening their grip on the Northwest Division lead. Over the past two seasons Denver has gone 19-4 in the month of March. A year ago in March the Nuggets went 12-2 while making their run toward the postseason.

Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony is in the middle of the 'madness' this month, averaging 29.2 points per game. Since the All-Star break Anthony has averaged 28 points.

The Nuggets' success on their current road trip has all but assured the team will finish with 40 or more wins for the third consecutive season. Denver last won 40 or more games in three consecutive seasons in 1987-88 (54 wins), 1988-89 (44) and 1989-90 (43).

>CBS college basketball analyst Billy Packer has his ideas for changing the NCAA men's tournament selection process. "I would do something really drastic. I think the time has come to eliminate all the guaranteed bids and let everybody be an at-large," Packer said on FSN's Best Damn Sports Show Period.

It’s time for the “should-I-stay-or-should-I-go-pro?” decision in Boulder, as University of Colorado men's basketball player Richard Roby is pondering his future. Roby has been a talented player during his two seasons at CU, and one of the best in the Big 12. But his struggles late in the season seemed to highlight the fact that he could use at least one more year of seasoning at the college level before taking his game to the NBA.

Colorado Crush offensive specialist Damian Harrell is on pace to set an Arena Football League record for touchdowns scored in a season. The league record is 46. Harrell already has scored 24 touchdowns, putting him on pace to finish the season with 55.
