Williamson puts finishing touch on Mollo

Saturday, May 6 at 7:30 PM

Denver heavyweight DaVarryl "Touch of Sleep" Williamson lived up to his nickname, winning by a fourth-round technical knockout over previously-undefeated Mike Mollo on Saturday in Worcester, Mass.

Williamson improved his record to 23-4 (with 19 knockouts). The referee stepped in to stop the fight just before the end of the fourth round, shortly after Williamson had staggered Mollo (15-1) with a powerful right hand.

Williamson, 37, is hoping to get another crack at a world championship. Last October he lost to Chris Byrd in an International Boxing Federation title bout. Byrd recently lost the IBF belt to Wladimir Klitschko. Klitschko beat Williamson by technical draw in 2004.

On Friday, Denver's Donald Camarena made a successful ring return, beating Franz Hantindi by unanimous decision in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

For Camarena, who improved his record to 17-2, it was his first bout since losing the World Boxing Council's Continental Americas light-welterweight title in February. He easily beat Hantindi over 10 rounds, with judges awarding him the win by scores of 100-90, 99-91 and 97-93.

In Philadelphia on Friday, Denver boxer Manuel Perez lost a 10-round decision to hometown favorite Rashiem Jefferson in a WBC-sanctioned USNBC super featherweight title bout. Jefferson retained the title and remained undefeated (10-0), while Perez suffered his first loss in seven professional fights.

Another Denver fighter, undefeated junior welterweight Adrian Mora has been forced to pull out of his May 17 fight against Emanuel Augustus due to injury. Mora (15-0) suffered a partially-dislocated jaw during a sparring session. The bout was scheduled to air on ESPN2.
