Fans treated to rare Coors Field feat
The Colorado Rockies have thrown 52 shutouts since the franchise's inception in 1993. When Jason Jennings blanked the defending National League-champion Houston Astros 5-0 on Saturday at Coors Field, it marked the second time in franchise history that Rockies pitchers have thrown two shutouts during the same homestand.
Jennings' nine-strikeout, seven-hit performance was the 15th complete-game shutout for a Rockies pitcher, and improved the club's record to 18-13. It also marked the first complete game for a Rockies pitcher this season. On Wednesday, Jeff Francis, Jose Mesa and Brian Fuentes combined for a four-hit, 3-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds.
In 2002, the Rockies had two shutouts in the same homestand against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field. On April 30, 2002 starter Mike Hampton and relievers Rick White and Mike James combined for a 10-0 Rockies win. The following day, starter Denny Neagle and Jose Jimenez blanked the Pirates 6-0.
