L.A. franchise still intrigues Elway
Former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway said on Sunday that he would be interested in being involved with an NFL franchise in Los Angeles.
Last week NFL owners held meetings in Denver, and one of the topics discussed was the potential of placing a team in the Los Angeles area. An NFL team has not called L.A. home since the Rams moved to St. Louis following the 1994 season.
In 1999, not long after his announced retirement from pro football, Elway expressed interest in an ownership group that attempted to place an expansion team in L.A. The NFL granted the expansion franchise to Houston. On Sunday, Elway said he still has an interest.
"I'd say there's no question I would look into an opportunity like that," Elway said. "Now, whether that's what I want to do or not, I'm not positive. But I would definitely look at the opportunity to see where it is, depending on which one it is. It's something I would definitely look into."
Elway said he didn't know if the league owners were keeping watch on his progress as a co-owner and CEO of the Arena Football League's Colorado Crush.
"You'd have to ask them that," Elway said. "No one's come and asked me about it."
