More than one ring on lineman's mind

Tuesday, May 23 at 12:05 AM

Colorado Crush lineman Kyle Moore-Brown has an immediate goal, and that is to win a second consecutive Arena Football League championship. But Moore-Brown, who has started in an AFL-record 192 consecutive games, already has given thought to a new career when his football days are over.

Professional wrestling.

Don't giggle. One day, you might see the beefy tag-team combo of Moore-Brown and former Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Gilbert Brown on television. The two are close friends -- so close that when Brown's father died, Moore-Brown adopted the family's last name as a tribute to the man he considered to be his father figure.

Moore-Brown and Brown also were teammates at the University of Kansas.
"He's a big, big wresting fan," Moore-Brown said. "He did it once, with (late NFL Hall of Famer) Reggie White.

"He asked me, 'What would you do if I wanted to do a tag-team?' I said, 'I'll do it -- if it's entertainment, let's do it.' But I know I'm not going to be without my shirt on. Whatever I'm going to do, it's going to be with some shirts and some pants. They've got that spandex thing going. I said two big guys like us won't look good like that."

NOTEWORTHY

ESPN.com reported on Monday that current Dallas Stars assistant general manager Francois Giguere is emerging as the leading candidate to become the new GM of the Colorado Avalanche. Giguere's history with the Avalanche organization dates back to 1990, when the franchise was known as the Quebec Nordiques. His most recent position with the club was vice-president of hockey operations during the 2000-01 season.

The Higher Ground Youth Challenge golf tournament is June 23 at Vista Ridge Golf Club in Erie. The HGYC offers mentoring programs and outdoors programs for at-risk youths. For registration information call 303-693-5575, or go to the Web site www.highergroundyc.org.

Three Colorado Rockies players were on pace (going into Monday's game in Los Angeles) to drive in 100 or more runs this season -- none named Todd Helton. The trio? Outfielders Matt Holliday and Brad Hawpe, and shortstop Clint Barmes.

The heat is on Miami Heat center Shaquille O'Neal: At age 34, the 'Diesel' is running out of fuel -- and chances to get to the NBA Finals. Better take advantage of the Detroit Pistons' smaller defenders while you can, Shaq.

The Big 12 recently announced its 10th anniversary all-conference baseball team, the results taken from an on-line voting by fans. Included on the list are current Rockies pitcher Jason Jennings (Baylor) and former Bear Creek High athlete Matt Hopper (Nebraska).
