Will close race draw crowds at Coors?

Monday, August 14 at 12:05 AM

Thanks to loyal Chicago Cubs fans, the Rockies enjoyed a successful weekend at the box office -- drawing over 116,000 fans that watched the home team win two of three games in the series at Coors Field.

More than 35,000 fans were at the ballpark for Sunday's series finale won by the Cubs. If you closed your eyes and listened to crowd reaction, often times it was tough to guess which team was the home team.

Now . . . how many Rockies fans will be out in force for the important four-game home series against the National League West Division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks that begins tonight?

On the field, the Rockies and Diamondbacks are jockeying to reach the top spot in the N.L. West. At the turnstiles, the two teams rank near the bottom of the league in attendance. Colorado ranks 12th among 16 N.L. teams, averaging 27,354 fans after 57 home games, and is on pace to finish the season with 2,215,715 fans -- second-lowest in franchise history. The Diamondbacks rank No. 14 in the N.L.

Last year the Rockies finished below two million fans (1,914,389) for the first time in club history.

That just goes to show you that Cub fans are the most ignorant people around. Oh well, at least they're not getting jacked for overpriced Old Style at the park.

I really wish the sports fans of Colorado would open there eyes. Look, this is a talented team. They might not go to the postseason this year. But, they are definately heading in the right direction. I am a native of Colorado, and grew up in the Denver area. Unfortunately, I have been in Grand Junction for the past year and a half. So, I can not support the team as much as I would like. So, it's up to those of you on the front range. It will be well worth your while. They are young and talented. Give them back the support they once had, and deserve!

It's Bronco season, Rockie season is officially over. And the Rockies and all their appologists can now go crawl back under the rock they came from.
