Pathetic Broncos KO'd before halftime
With all due respect to the injured finger on the throwing hand of quarterback
The Broncos' offense, deemed by some to be the next great thing in pro football, stumbled, bumbled and literally, fumbled its way into oblivion against the Patriots during the first half.
Flip through the stat pages. From the second half of Denver's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 12 into halftime of Monday night's game, the Broncos had 16 offensive possessions.
The result of those possessions? Six punts, four fumbles, three interceptions, one field goal, one touchdown and a turnover on downs . . .
Going into Monday night's game, the Broncos had posted 13 drives totaling 10 or more plays. Seven of those drives resulted in touchdowns, four in field goals and two in turnovers. Denver's first drive of the game against the Patriots lasted 12 plays before ending with a fumble by
People keep asking what has happened to the Broncos' offense, and I'll keep saying some wily defensive minds have had just a little something to do with keeping them out of the end zone. Not a lot, maybe, but a wee bit. I'm talking defensive coordinators Gunther Cunningham (Kansas City), Monte Kiffin (Tampa Bay) and Gregg Williams (Jacksonville) and Patriots head coach Bill Belichick . . .
I'll say it again -- the Broncos might have more wins over Belichick since 2001, but in that same time period, the Patriots have as many Super Bowl appearances (four) as Denver has playoff appearances (four) . . .
Brace yourself, Bronco Fan. The trade deadline has passed, the season is at the halfway point and the '85 Bears have long since retired. The personnel on Denver's defense is, well, what it is and is going to be for the rest of the season . . .
If it's Monday and the lights are on away from Denver, the Broncos likely will get the old deer-in-the-headlights look. Make it eight losses in their past nine road games played on
In case you were wondering, the Broncos record for defensive sacks in a game is 10, set in 1969 . . .
Think the San Diego Chargers were watching from London while the AFC West leaders get destroyed? Probably not - in England it was 1:30 a.m. when New England kicked off to Denver . . .
Glad to see a bye week for the Broncos? They probably are too, with the next game scheduled Nov. 2 at home against the Miami Dolphins. If the numbers mean anything, Denver has gone 11-2 in home games after a bye week, 15-4 overall after a bye week . . .
Instead of taking time off for the bye week, the Broncos ought to show up to practice every day until the game against Miami . . .

Boy if looks could kill....Andre Hall would be six feet under right now. If the Broncos didn't have so many backs out with injuries I would bet that he would be waived by morning. Sam, is the Bronco defense really that bad or is it the game plan? Although the way they tackled (or didn't tackle) tonight I probably answered my own question. If the Bailey brothers are out for any extended period it will only compound their problems. You'd think that with all the disrespect the D is getting from the national media that pride alone would make them play harder.

Any way the Broncos can schedule the Detroit Lions for the next 9 games? On second thought, they would probably have a hard time against them, too. All the problems the Broncos have shown previously this season came to roost in this game. There's no other way to describe it except "disaster". Penalties, turnovers, poor run defense, shabby tackling, loss of composure (personal foul penalties)-you name it, the Broncos did it.

I didn't get to watch the game, but this has been building for a couple seasons. Not time to panic? I am sick and tired of each and every Bronco on the defensive roster saying they are making progress and that they are "close". The reality is, this group of guys don't play together. Ever since Al Wilson's injury, nobody on this defense has been willing to make a hit. Champ Bailey, the greatest shutdown corner in the league? What's he shutting down? I haven't seen this guy live up to his billing yet in Denver. Dre Bly, please, you watch this guy and 9 out of 10 plays he is tripping over his own feet. The 10th play he gets lucky breaks up a pass and he is a great player? How many HS kids in CO could play that position better right now? I'm sure there might be a couple. The linebackers? Refer to the Al Wilson incident. These guys are afraid to hit. The defensive line? Horrible, but they obviously looked good against a equally pathetic NE Patriot offensive line. We as Bronco fans have grown accustomed to having at least two "smash you in the mouth" defensive players. Right now there are non on that team. Tyrone Braxton was a better DB than either Bailey or Bly at this point.
Mike, you consistently fire defensive coordinators, and have become the "Al Davis" in regards to defensive coordinators. At this point I would say hire Bill Romanowski, and let him clean house in regards to defensive players, and let him light a fire under the new defense. Then maybe we will see a hard hitting, smash you in the mouth defense.

Greg your idea is of merit, but I'm afraid the bronc's would end up 4-5 against the Lions.

This had to have been the closest thing I have ever seen to an intentionally thrown game. Hall puts the ball on the ground twice in two carries and no one comes over and punches his lights out. Be that as it may it was only 6 to 0, then Denver's non- existent D has Cassel backed up deep in there own territory 3rd and 17 and Winborn gives them a first down with a blatantly stupid facemask penalty. Then the camera catches a glimse of him yucking it up with the guys.To me that was the begining of the end. I am embarassed to be a Bronco fan, and you can chastize me for it, but it is the Bronco fan who pays the players, not Shannahan, not Bowlen. Broncos, you embarassed the very people who give you a job. I am very close to mailing in all of my Broncos stuff and officially resigning as a fan. GET IT TOGETHER!!!!!!!

The Broncos have been underachieving for about 5-6 years now. Three different Defensive Coordinators in 3 years, and they still have no idea about the very BASICS of how to play defense.....doesn't that point to a problem at the top (Shannahan)? One reason they can't stop the run, is because immediately at the snap of the ball, the linebackers "rush" into the line, where they get blocked, and/or taken out of the play, creating a hole in the line. Instead they should hold back for a couple seconds, then rush in to plug the holes in the line. One reason they can't stop the pass, is because when the defensive backs always play 10 yards off the receivers, ANY NFL passer can move their team up and down the field....which is exactly what every other team does against the Broncos. The "Basic Fundamentals" of defense are not that difficult, Shannahan! When is Patrick Bowlen going to finally remove the blinders, and see Shannahan for what he really is....or better yet, for what he "isn't".....an NFL caliber coach!

We here in Colorado are surely cursed! We not only have Mike Shannahan....we also have George Karl! The Nuggets have also been underachieving for several years, in spite of having some great indvidual players. They are inconsistent, and can't play defense worth a damn...sound a little like the Broncos? And let's not forget Clint Hurdle....except for the miracle 30 day run last year, the Rockies have been pathetic for 10 years, usually choking when runners are in scoring position, both the bullpen and starting pitching is usually inconsistent and underachieving. Sound familiar? You suppose Shannahan, Hurdle and George Karl are related? Worse yet, maybe the owners are related! Patrick Bowlen, Stan Kroenke the Montfort brothers appear to all have several things in common...I don't think they care about their teams....if they did, they wouldn't be accepting mediocrity from their coaches year after year after year. You ever see the Montfort brothers at a Rockies game? You ever see Stan Kroenke at a Nuggets game? You ever see Patrick Bowlen at a Broncos game? Come to think of it, the Avalanche have been inconsistent for several years also, and can't ever beat the really good teams, like the Redwings. What was that line from Joel Quenneville's TV commercials? "It's time for a line change!" Well, the Avalanche did just that...they replaced Joel Quenneville! How about a "line change" from Kroenke, the Montforts, and Patrick Bowlen?

I posted this on another story but because of the long list of bitchers, I don't think many "Fans" will bother to plow through the crap to read this, so here it is again:
Who's worse than the Denver Broncos? THE DENVER "FANS". It took me almost an hour to read all the crybaby ignorant rants from probably the most spoiled fans outside of NY. Makes me ashamed to call myself a Bronco fan.
First, to the people who are calling for Shanny's head, you guys would probably cut off your arm if you broke your fingernail. Idiots.
Second, those calling for a complete changeover, you'd probably shoot your horse in the desert if he was bit by a horsefly. We ARE in the middle of a changeover! If you knew the first thing about football, you'd know that and feel good about where we are and where we're headed. Spoiled idiots.
Third, I have been a Bronco fan since the Red Miller days, watched Elway's entire career and although I think he was the greatest QB ever, there were plenty of times when he looked like crap. Remember the Super Bowl losses to 49ers, Skins and Giants? News flash, Elway is retired, come join the rest of us in 2008 and quit acting like little girls who lost their sugar daddy. Spoiled idiot losers.
Fourth, no wonder you have no stomach for the tough times. You people build up players to the level of gods, then stone them when they stumble. I almost feel sorry for Torrain, hasn't played a pre-season game yet let alone a regular season game, he's coming off an injury, yet the spoiled crybabies of Denver already see him as the second coming of Christ. TD wouldn't have lived up to that expectation! Spoiled idiot loser crybabies!
Yes Denver looked bad, but they looked great compared to the crap I've read from their so called "Fans". Spoiled idiot loser crybaby hypocrites!!!

don't hold back, tell us how you really feel!
you're right, i don't think many people really remember how bad the bronx looked in many games with the 'pre-saint' john at the helm, and he just as bad as the rest of the team in some cases. back then, before he got the stellar cast around him and won it all, there were numerous times when they just looked so bad, it was either turn off the tv and find something else to do, or tear my hair out, beat my wife, and break furniture.
fast forward to 2008. the past is gone, the team has changed. yet here i am again, saving my hair, my wife (she DID finally learn to quit reminding me it's just a game!), and my belongings YET AGAIN, by not finishing out the game. i had hoped these days would never come again.
still, next game i'm able to watch, you know i'll be right back in front of the tv, cheering on my guys, hoping against hope, that i still have hair at the end of the season.......
go broncos!

With Champ, because of the bye, will miss 3-4 games (hopefully no more then that). GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am with you about Shanahan. He didn't turn the ball over 5 times or miss all them tackles. Shanahan can stay as long as he wants for all I am concerned. Look at the Titans for example. Jeff Fisher has had a long tenure and some ups and down, and no superbowl rings. But this year he is 6-0 no thoughts about firing him.

Yes the defence sucked Monday night and most of the season so far this year and all of last year, they need someone to lead them better than the ones that are, the face mask on Monday night should of got as much attention as the fumbles the team has the bye week this week we all know that things can get better but have little hope that they will, I just wonder what Bronco greats of the past think of this defence, there is just to many of them pulling for the team to have them playing like school kids, its not even orange mush anymore

Hey Dynamic, I left you a note way back on the blog about Fall Guys, so I had better catch up.
Read a little of this and you're still a fan, good for you, I try to be, hard at times though.
I still say my "Sic 'Em' defense would work better (couldn't be any worse) than all the 'schemes' Shanny and that bunch try to put into the minds of children at play.
No doubt, without Champ the Broncos lose half of their defense, he's a standout, all over the field, left and right, with him, Moss had nothing, when he left, Moss had what? 6 catches 2 for touchdowns, he's a 'champ' alright.
I'm sticking to my 'as long as Shananigans' is around the Broncos won't get much better than they are now. He's a good coach, but in Denver he's gotten stale, same old, same old, even those mentalities get worn out from the SOS.
Don't have a clue who would do better, but I'm sure you wouldn't have to look far, like Haslett in St. Louis, pretty good run huh?

Youth IS football Dave, about the time you get 'seasoned' you too old too play. Can't start 'em all playing on your team at say 21, nice but no one would wait the number of years for youth to season, and with injuries and trades it just wouldn't work anyway. Gofastgo
